Templars? In my ST:RPG? So.. erm.. what are they, exactly? I've seen numerous Templar freighters, which are nice because they're very explodable and make for a pretty good starting hauler, but I've seen the words "25% NEW Templar ships in every box!" on the past few updates, and I'm a bit confused as to what makes a Templar ship particularly different from a random Faction ship. If I blow them up, does it give negative faction rep? If so, with who? Should I be hoarding Templar ships like kids stockpile candy? Sorry if this was dealt with in another topic, but I didn't see one.

I hear they are at war with the assassins. At least, that's what I heard from this Altair guy at the bar the other night.

Templars for the core strength of Shalun Lawn. They are the enforcers, the guardians and the stewards.
Trained from a young age to live, fight and die in a single suit of Leviathan Armor, the Templar are the most fearsome fighting force in the Quadrant.
During the Times of Strife (ST RPG 1's setting) the main Templar force has been missing for 57 years.

So...there ought to be some real trouble if you fly one of their ships and aren't actually a Templar, eh? Usually you get in trouble for driving around in a police cruiser that's not appropriately decommissioned.

"Templars for the core strength of Shalun Lawn." "We shall maintain the most perfect lawns outside the Shalun Law courthouses. We will use only the finest grass seed. Our massive suits of body armor will be re-designed to provide high-pressure assists to sprinkler systems in case of an emergency breakdown, lest the lawns get dehydrated and brown. Plasma Cannons are the only relations we will have with weeds! Only through the perfect lawn may come to understand how wrong the Narvidian Solution was." -Brother Herba Hortalus ("Gardener of Grass") "New Tenets for Our Order" Chapter 3, Verse 14:3-5

I don't think I can deal with yogurt. No one should have to. You win.

Slight re-railing here: So is it a safe bet that I should begin hoarding Templar ships like they're going outta style because they're destined to be a plot hook, and I need something to show the space grandkids that'll show up in v. 5.08?

OK, that would be really cool: Contracts to do a mission in a ship with a particular flag. NPC captains are always 'flying chameleon colors,' so why not the PC?
It would also give you reason to have more than one ship outfitted for something other than storage and vanity.
You probably also only want to trigger flagged contracts if there's a political action in progress. (or maybe let the contracts 'encourage' such actions?")
"Go blockade Javat Prime, but do it in a Cadar ship with at least 15 hull (so you're very visible). We want those reincarnated dingbats to regret starting this Trade War."
"We're in a War of Assassins with Steel Song, so go to Steel Prima, Palace and kill, kill, do not pass go, do not collect 200 space bucks, kill, kill, kill this Steel Song Dirtbag, and do it flying noble "Thulun Goldenrod" colors. We want them to know who did it and looked fantastic doing it. Don't use "Thulun Yarrow." It doesn't show up well on the vidcap replays."
"Deliver these passengers to Deep Space. The pickup is going to be looking for a DeValtos freighter, so make sure you're flying the right colors."
Flagged contracts should be worth a lot in rep swings (both ways if you're framing someone) and should have a longer timeframe since you may have to buy or fetch a ship. Also, the purse should be bigger.

And THAT would be a good reason for having so many ships parked in various dry docks around the galaxy
