I might see it as more of a balance issue if the main badguys were human. They're not. They seem on the small side, perhaps 4.5-5 feet and with a wiry strength and agility. I have no real trouble imagining them having appropriate bonuses in dexterity and speed.Orcin probably have similar racial stat bonuses to strength and constitution. If the ratkin are like mountain goblins, I see the Orcin akin to Uruk Hai.

Sometimes, like the archers, we are really just making design choices that honor the true goals of TB:
BALANCE + FUN = VICTORY
Nothing more, nothing less.

Reminds me of "fun" vs "FUN" on Dwarf Fortress forums, where "FUN" = watching hours of hard work go horribly wrong.

As a GameMaster/Storyteller, I would never try to hold the players to the rules used for the monsters. If I was playing, I'd get so hellaciously bored as to probably leave if the GM enforced invariant rulesets. From my first days of game design I have repeatedly learned this lesson -- "it is odd that finding a balance between two disparate systems is far easier, and ultimately more satisfying for the average player, than a single invariant ruleset." I couldn't agree more. Reminds me of a week long D&D I was running as the DM. We stepped outside the rules. Everybody was allowed to design any character class they wanted as long as it stayed with the basics of play. One guy was so creative the only way I could think of to slow him down was to create a one hex corridor blocked by an Undead machine gun nest. Picked up the dungeon dice and was surprised when he and the party got past it!

slayernz, I love that picture! Funny and the cat looks a lot like the one I grew up with. Sent from my broken HTC Desire C using proboards. Anyone's got a fan?
