I realised a couple of days ago I was always playing the game basically the same way, looking at a long term like my captain was going to live for ever (which he never did!) I don't have a lot of spare time to play and always play more than I should just trying to complete a goal like a reward or a ship.
Anyhow a couple of days ago I decided I could always create a new captain on the spot, go in and try a completely different and if the game ended after only 10 minutes I could just go back to working... so I did things I never tried before and it was lots of fun and not so upsetting to die.
I also started to see a few more patterns learning how the game works with different stats and factions etc. Another captain could try alternative outcomes and learn more. For me this was a new and very enjoyable experience.
I just need to remember not to try the same thing in RL with science, stocks, and climbing ...

Oddly enough, after my Captains age a bit, they get more careful. There's something about having a decent bank account and some rank that makes you want to preserve what you have.

Yeah, death of a level 40 captain hurts a great deal more than death of a level 5 captain.
One thing I've learned is NEVER surrender when you are down to 1 health, because the bastards who you surrender to always beat you up one last time (causing 1 point of damage). You are dead as a result.
Ramming speed anyone?

!!!YAY NECRO POST TIME!!!
I read this a few weeks ago and it has 100% changed my opinion of this wonderful game... Now i get to my 40s pretty quickly and want to make a new toon...
My question is, Is there a reason to keep playing past 50 on any character? I have 2 in the hundreds already and a few in their 40s. Is there some point where things get harder again? Is life always this easy from here on. Is Corey working on a "BOSS" ship that only has a chance of occurring after 100 that will eat our eyes for Ju-ju beans?

Playing Impossible means nothing you do becomes easy. I've lost captains all the way up to level 116. Admittedly I've not had a captain that has lived on Impossible beyond 116 - but it was fun up until then. Okay no ... it wasn't fun up until then. Level | Emotional Commitment | Expectation of captain life expectancy | 1 - 10 | None | Next to none | 11 - 20 | Moderate | Optimistic - I see a future in this one | 21 - 40 | High | Optimistic - I'm beating Cory's game!!! | 41 - 60 | High | Mostly Confident - I've had a few near death experiences recently but nothing that can't be fixed with a tweak in strategy | 61 - 80 | Very high | Somewhat Worried - Where the @#!% did that last level 152 bounty hunter come from! | 81 - 100 | Extreme | Anxious - Will my next move be my captain's downfall? I might just start up a new captain now | 101 + | Extreme | Living on borrowed time - I love my captain so much that I can't bear risking him … but I just - can't - stop |
The inevitable death results in ... (5 seconds after death) Aaaaarrrgggh!!! Noooooooooo. Undo. Back. Retreat. It was an accident!!! (10 seconds later) I hate this game! ... Stupid stupid. It's all stupid. Don't know why I play this game. I'm stopping now! (1 minute later) I can't believe [insert captain name here] is gone! Maybe I'll try some other game for now. (5 minutes later) ... okay Angry Birds sucks big time. I think I'll just have a look at one of my other saved STRPG captains Maybe if I tried something slightly different the outcome could be different (Start new captain on Impossible) ... I'll just play for a few minutes ... no doubt this captain will die as fast anyway (2 hours later) ... this is so frikkin cool! ... I love this game

Hey Cory! You've got 100 Karma!!! Do you get to cash that in and get a 14" replica model of a Templar Knight?

slayernz - Exactly my feeling! Right now I am dedicated to beat the 200 lvl on Impossible. Fingers crossed I have the freaking best balanced Captain ever .

The Post :: Karma ratio is key here -- and you're kicking my tail all over the quadrant on that one. I salute you for that!

I love this game Same for me, but I'm still fairly new, so the difficulty is only on Hard rather than Impossible at the moment.
