I've finally got the lv20 achievement (on Hard) with the starting Vae ship ;D. Oh yeah and 15min later I was killed by alien
I have some more wishes for a future game, as they probably won't fit into this game.
Right now we have ship to ship combat between single ships.
Sometimes I hear rumors of "open fighting", I tried going to these sites a couple times but never found anything.
I think it would be nice if battles become a contract thing you find in military bases. You'll be notified to arrive at a designated space by a certain time. Once that date has arrived, you join battle between two or more factions. The fact that you arrived to join the battle the contract is completed and you get a small reputation for your side.
Then it becomes sort of like TurnBasedStrategy where pieces move around and fight each other. At the beginning when you're low rank you only control your own ship and receive orders to engage ship, guard something for how many turns, advance somewhere, etc. As you advance up the rank, you get to issue order to more ships, while still getting orders from the top. Once you obtain a certain rank, you get to control the entire battle.
Though personally I'd like it so you get to issue ship to ship engagement order to ships in your squadron, but not what the ships do (torpedo, guns, close, etc). You only get to do that for your own ship. And to other squadrons you can only issue general orders like advance and take this area or hold this area, etc.
The end (top and bottom like chess?) of the map are retreat areas where you can leave battle and go back to the square you were in before. If a military ship retreats before a retreat order is given then he gets negative reputation.
Battle would be decided by fraction of map taken and losses on both sides. Extra reputation would be rewarded for captains who accomplish their orders and/or defeat/take/destroy enemy ships in battle. Bonus reputation for being on the winning side.
If the winner wins by a large enough ratio, that section of space would be turned into an area controlled by that faction. This includes planets (but since a battle is always at border areas, lots of battles need to be fought before a planet can be taken).
If a ship that is not of either side enter the combat zone during combat, it could choose to avoid the zone (and so not go in and gets a detour on its way to its destination) or enter it. If the captain decide to go into the combat zone, he risk getting targeted by both sides until he picks a side. He does so by engaging a ship of the other side, at which point he basically become a combatant supporting one side. He'll get the same reputation gain/loss for defeat/take/destroying ships, but he won't get orders.
A ship that is of the combatant's faction that arrive at the combat zone without being under contract to do so would be treated as if he was under contract to do so.
This way the player can eventually paint the entire map blue. Of course the other factions most likely would team up against a faction that's getting too powerful. Which means each faction would get set number of ships it own and an average quality for those ships. These depend on number of planets with urban zone it owns, its faction type, its economy, etc.
For example Steel Song (was it?) would get high quality warships because its military. But small number because it doesn't have many urban zone planets (2 in free, didn't count in elite), which it would be hard-pressed to replenish if lost in battle because it's a military faction. Meanwhile Clan Javat (was it?) would have low quality ships because its an economy faction, but a higher number because it has more urban-zone planets (it doesn't in free lol) and it would really be able to replenish them faster because it has lots of money.
Now this idea is getting to be quite complicated. Is it doable on a cellphone game? Maybe even parts of it.
