The HISHE Version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrRCR0iOMr0But that aside If I am low level (say 20) and my ship sucks (say that Vae starting ship). And I meet one of those alien ships with 500 crew and 100 engine/sails and stuff and its lv46? How do I escape? Oh yeah I already died. I was playing on hard. It dodged all my attacks, I was beginning to fight boarding parties and getting very very seriously wounded. Surrendered because I can't win, and died.

Never surrender to the alien.
If you're low level, avoid dead planets and watch your rumors.

I have yet to run from an alien, or be killed by one. Only some of those blasted space hulks manage to escape me with their cheating, level 500+ ways!

Like I said, stay the heck away from areas where there have been alien attacks and dead worlds in general. If you're not outfitted to survive an alien attack, you have to do everything you can to prevent them.
Failing that, if you can't run and can't win, ram them and don't let them take you alive.

Speaking of which, I don't recall ever SEEING a 'ram' option

Ram option replaces the "Advance" button during encounters once you and your opponent are at close range. Basically, if you have "board", "guns" and "engines" available as button presses, then "advance" changes to "Ram". Cory's kindly added a confirmation toast for those who like to mash the "advance" button because they are in a hurry to take out the engines of their opponents

On some phones the Ram button is pretty small

Well I just met my first alien.... Poor Horatio Amadeus. He's torping the enemies of Cadar in heaven now. I couldn't find a ran button and the alien boarded me and wouldn't let go. I am only lvl 4 warrior. 22 pilot and stealth though but couldn't outrun the alien ship or retreat. I just got the escape shuttle award and was on my way to purchase one too. Is there any other way to survive?

these types of aliens build up in the game around dead planets, gaining in number and expiring like the charts of exchange prices:
public static final int ALIEN_TERROR = 12; these have no captain and only attempt to close to board. they cannot be defeated in captain duel, kill 200% normal Crew, are immune to weapons and any artifacts on board increase attack power by 100% per artifact
public static final int ALIEN_HORROR = 13; these have 2 captains (one male, one female) and only attempt to close to board and fire at zero range. they can be defeated in captain duel, kill 100% normal Crew, any artifacts on board increase attack power by 20% per artifact
public static final int ALIEN_DEVOUR = 14; these have 1 captains (weak) and only attempt to close to board and ram at zero range. they can be defeated in captain duel, kill 10% normal Crew, any artifacts on board increase automatically converts 7-17 Crew to Aliens per Boarding Action
public static final int ALIEN_FLAYER = 15; these have 1 captains (nearly invincible) and only attempt to close to board and shoot guns at zero range. they can be defeated in captain duel, kill 300% normal Crew, are 50% immune to weapons, fear artifacts (-10% alien efficiency / artifact in the hold)
public static final int ALIEN = 5; This type of Alien acts like a smuggler but then randomly selects any other AI and changes every 2-3 turns. These are very hard to predict. If they select terror, horror or devour they will stick at that level. best to escape early.

It would be nice to take an alien ship as a prize. I could totally install an aftermarket hat rack.
