Just got around to reading the review and had a few thoughts.
1) Sorry you didn't get a very good review.
2) Yes learn from this review as I'm sure you're doing. You're game is getting thrown in with a new class of games and that is a good thing. Having people who are not already believers in Trese Brother's games is an invaluable source of feedback and you should listen to it.
3) However, you still have to make your own games. There is a real danger in trying to make games that will please every reviewer and by doing so you may end up pleasing very few reviewers. This reviewer is obviously interested in faster paced games that don't have a lot interrupting the fighting portions. HoS is unique and if you try to meet all of his expectations you could end up having a game that doesn't feel any different 10 or 20 or 30 other games that offer lots of action and fast rewards. To my mind, this would be a real loss. To some extent, it seems like your choice is between having a popular game that is enjoyed by many for a brief period of time and probably makes you lots of money, versus a niche game that is deeply loved by fewer players who play it to death but probably doesn't make you as much money. Now that your both being supported by the income from your games that's not an easy choice to make. That's an oversimplification, but if you can overcome it, you will one day be gaming legends.
4) A few points I agree with the reviewer on. There is a lot of ground to cover in this game and it can seem slow at times. One way of dealing with this might not be to make smaller levels, but to make more visually appealing levels. More variety in map tiles and structures lend a lot to the game and the world it is imagining. Would it be possible to contract out some of that work? In a similar vein I also feel the lack of variety in enemies. Could multiple skins of the same enemy help? Maybe? I think there is also a lot to explore in more unique powerful enemies that you might meet by themselves or in a very small group. We don't meet anyone with really powerful magic in ep. 1. What about a giant spider that has the ability to leap or climb the walls over your party, a very erratic foe who doesn't just stay and attack the person in front of them?
Don't be discouraged, learn and press on.

It's COOL ... funny funny FUNNY cool ... or maybe I'm thinking of something else ... To be honest: WTF could that be? Sent from my broken HTC Desire C using proboards. Anyone's got a fan?

Well it's, all right now. I learned my lesson well, you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.

I was quoting Rick Nelson's song Garden Party. Plus I really do have a lot of cats.

It just takes time. Responsible reviewers will come back and take a second look as the game progress with more episodes, content and IAP characters etc. Anyone who knows your track record knows how deep and complex your games become. You are the only ones who know the long view, so the reviewers have limited information to work with. If good quality wasn't in chapter one you guys would be taking allot more heat. One little thing I'm really dreading is when you start letting Shaman cast buff AOE on their minions, and I just know you will!

It gets worse than that -- groups of monsters can all have an automatic effect applied, beyond the boss buffs. Think Flame Spiders, Earth Beatles or Ratkin with Haste. Worse than AoE buffs are the upcoming AoE monster curses. That is when it gets nasty. That, and monsters that summon other monsters

And that's not some yet to be developed stuff -- we just cannot include it, in good faith, in Episode 1.
Have to introduce these type of challenges a step at a time =)

Cory, what end of the spiders does the flame come from? I'm picturing Ass Blasters from Tremors 3 in my mind and laughing my butt off.

Seriously ntsheep do you know nothing! If spiders did ass blasting, their webs would catch on fire and they'd burn their butts!

No matter where the flame is on the spider, you've got to assume that their webs are fire proof. Unless their like jumpers or funnel webs that do not really use silk to capture their prey. I am just glad that the American Funnel Web spider is not like the Australian ones. Ours are small, cute, and cuddly. The Australian ones make grizzly bears look like beanie babies.
