Okay now that we have determined that officers give the same bonuses regardless of when or where they are recruited I have another question.
Are the stat related bonuses a flat number or percentage based?
Example a Pilot Officer adds to the piloting skill in certain situations. Is that a flat bonus like say +6 levels or a percentage like +20% of the Captains skill?
Since we can only have 3 officers, knowing things like this can help determine the best mix. Like a ship upgrade that adds +3 Armor is much more valuable on a ship with say 8 Armor than on a ship with say 20 Armor, an officer that adds a flat bonus will be more effective if the Captains skill is lower, while a Captain with a high skill would get a lot more benefit from a % bonus.

It is a mix -- each officer has a few flat and a few % based bonuses.
I'll take a look to see if it is documented anywhere that I can share.

You rock! Thanks for the info in plain and simple terms. Officer level doesn't vary in ST at this time. There is no purpose to firing and hiring the same officer.

If you have ever dismissed your venerable first mate, you can always get him to rejoin your crew by flying back to your very first planet... Why would I want him back? The guy is a nagging, nattering irritant. I dump him as soon I've got two officers, then find a useful third. "The crew does not like working against independents" indeed! Squeamish nancy. If the crew doesn't like something, they know of my "open door policy". Yah, the airlock door. Epic war criminal Mithridates is not a kind and gentle captain, but he gets results!

mithridates didn't join in because he was having major sails quality issues and had the gall to attempt to sue the Solar Sails Consortium as compensation for the death of his father, Mithridates (EWC). startradersrpg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=4196Of course, the sincere and empathetic response from the SSC was "Ha, all sails complaints must be made by the purchaser of the sails in person, and therefore unless you can reanimate his cold, dead, vacuum-damaged corpse, you're out of luck."
