We have the ship thread, the award thread and now the flavour rumor thread!
Post some flavour rumors (I.e, "why is the vudka always gone")
"Chemicals" is the generic name given to a mixture of, well, chemicals. Make sure that that stuff is properly sealed, I remember one time when a crew-mate of mine had an entire barrel of the stuff dumped over him. Thank the maker that tags are virtually indestructible. Not even DNA testing could have identified him otherwise.
Remember, spacer, that there is such a thing as too much time at the spice plate. After a while you just can't get any more intoxicated.
Have you heard of the old star hero Trese? It is said that he was the one responsible for rescuing most of the humans and writing the laws of Shaluan.
Aliens and Narvidans are still highly valued, even their scrap can be sold for thousands of credits! I once knew a captain who made a living off hunting aliens and selling their scrap.
If you ever fight a Thulun crew, always aim for the flamboyant ones. That way friendly fire is zero.
If you are going to do some trading, check what the exchange has first, then make your plans.
Smugglers are having a hard time, now anyone who "donates" enough to the faction's pocket can pick up a licence sell the so called "restricted cargo".
Now you guys.

Your mother was right; always wear clean underwear. You never know when you may get boarded, abducted, and probed by a famous alien.
Don't assume that space scum is useless. Blasting even the most incompetent space pirate with a pathetic ship into salvage and space junk will help cheer up a stir crazy crew.
Careful what type of attention you ask for, captain. Flying an expensive ship with a sweet paintjob won't help you get any dates, but it sure can attract a lot of pirates!
Discretion may be the better part of valor, but knowing what the other guy is gonna do is the key to winning when you are outmatched.
Hey! If you see that guy flying the Narvidian Hive, tell him he owes me five bucks!
This one time, at space camp...

Wait, selling a ship for salvage increases morale?

Nah, defeating pirates in space increases morale. Then, you just blow em up for salvage if you don't mind the hit on faction!

Killing pirates increases morale? You mean they'll overlook the thousands of crewmen I've sent first into Narvidian kill holes and alien terror pits in search of profit? Excellent!

LOL. Explorer is sometimes hard to imagine. The Captain is a charismatic space leader I guess =)

Seriously, my captains tend to cap out at 7of10 morale by the mid game no matter how much spice I feed them. Am I not killing enough pirates?

Yeah, I have found that unless I am blowing the crap outa a bunch of enemy ships, as in playing a merchant or explorer, my morale does cap out around there. The other thing that I am certain increases morale that you can do without combat is completing missions.

Yeah that's the only way I can get morale above 7 in all classes ... completing a couple of missions or blowing stuff up.
It's the youth of today - not keen on going out and finding new and hidden riches through hard work and the occasional "work place accident" ... they just want to see explosions in space.

I keep you safe. I keep you fed. I keep you high. I hire naked jugglers at least once a month. You bastards only rate my captaincy as 'mostly satisfactory?'

You feed your crew? How quaint! Mine are fanatical on the water coming out the reactor cooling & 5 minutes looking at records. I deliver a few passengers every now and then when they are heading my way. The first mate worships me on a smell the same bottle of booze I bought with my ship, and the engineer does anything will do anything if I let her sleep crate of metal and crystals. Maybe your problem is you are treating your crew too well and they are acting like children? I keep you safe. I keep you fed. I keep you high. I hire naked jugglers at least once a month. You bastards only rate my captaincy as 'mostly satisfactory?'

Maybe I should just stop handing out all these Captain's Performance Review surveys. It probably makes me seem like some kind of an insecure DeValtos mid-level manager.
Honestly, I had the 7 of 10 problem with an Explorer and I figured the stink of death was just too great. "Yeah, he's treating us really well, but he also was really nice to the 5000 other crew he left in toxic canyons and magma pits."
I was surprised that my non-combat Smuggler was getting such poor ratings when he pretty much only had to recruit after the occasional radiation storm mishap or erotic space juggler defection. I guess I should have taken Old Turdlip literally about the 'crew needs excitement' toast. Maybe they don't think piles of money and super bargains on plants and electronics are exciting.

There's a toast for "the crew needs excitement"? Even as a smuggler, I still try my hand at exploration ... I guess it's a bit like stock rotation. You don't want to have old crew stacked at the front of the shelves when you've got newer and fresher crew at the back.
