So...how many of you play with your thumb? Perhaps your right thumb? Ever find it a little bit annoying hitting the attack buttons during an encounter and not seeing the effects on enemy's stats due to your frickin thumb being in the way?
Solution? Put the action buttons at the bottom of the screen, below the stats and text.
Same logic as to why phone keyboards are below the screen (or text field) - so your view of the screen isn't obstructed by your fingers as you type.
I'm really surprised nobody has thought of this yet!

I'm left-handed and play with my left-thumb more often than not. I also have a very long left thumb (I'm tall) so can streeeeetch across and usually mash the right button with a press. Okay, so every now and then I've declared war on some unsuspecting independent world because of an errant press, but it's almost never happened where it matters

This is interesting. I am always trying to improve the screen. Let me see if there is an option setting I can use

Thulun captains play with the right, extended pinkie only.

Yeah ... but they end up only mashing the attack button regardless of what they are meant to be doing ...

If I'm flying Thulun, I always Advance, Advance, Retreat, Retreat before beginning combat. Shooting down an enemy captain without demonstrating my piloting superiority first is unthinkably barbaric!
So...evasive manuevers button?

LOL ... it's the Thulun shuffle. Now I understand their approach to engagement.

Cadar captains use only one finger to engage enemies(and even friends if they're in the mood). Care to guess which one?

It would be neat if you could 'feint' with your ship to gain some combat advantage over other similarly dodgy captains. Maybe it would be a way to speed up those late game standoffs.
