Ohhh. That's why. Thought the BH was getting discounts, cause the zealot actualy increased promotion price for non-home faction. Could you put that somewhere in the zealot description when you choose it so people know the disadvantage of choosing zealot? Cause that's a big deal.

Just managed to survive (past the point of imminent death to level 20) as a Bounty Hunter for the first time.
I have reached the conclusion that Bounty Hunter is a fantastic class to play.

Rage on, Captain! How many Death Warrants does he carry? Using the BH's special ability much? Using Surveillance XP a lot or not?

Death Warrants for all the Clans. Always doing surveillence before the hunt - whether for kill or capture. Rep +100 ish for the clans, and -300 ish for the Great houses. I guess I'm doing it right then! I'm not certain what you mean by "surveillence XP."

Doing great. If you have Death Warrants, watching for "Spy Wars" between your Positive Rep and Negative Rep you can gain XP and Rep bonuses by doing Surveillance against the enemy planets.

This is definitely like my favorite way to play -- positive or neutral with the clans, raging the syndicates Death Warrants are great -- combining them with Rank 1+ Trade Permit gives you pretty much free reign in about half the encounters you have.

I thought it was that way for every pofession. Does the BH give you bonus XP during spy wars if you have a death warrent?

Not sure what you mean by BH -- but I think the answer is "no" for both class and officer -- the XP bonus is dependent on Edict and Conflict, not Profession. The balance equation math pretty much ended that discussion once we crunched the numbers. And that fact that phantombudgie is doing Surveillance before all hunts almost certainly means that he's building a Surveillance-optimized BH ... that means that, Profession aside, the build is optimized for that Conflict use. It's a common enough synergy, many players use it.

Yes, I'm getting a lot more xp per mission than I'm used to for other play styles.
Just been having a run of bad luck with capture contract failures - it's a bad idea to board a vessel without firing and damaging it a little first, but just recently I've wiped out four ships in a row, each with one shot! Maybe I should torpedo them once instead, as that is much rarer to blow ships out of the sky.
Life is good for Captain Flash onboard the Omega Cruiser - upgraded with Advanced Bridge, Sail Command Probe, Ancient Reactors and Titan Components, of course - but the fuel consumption is a little too high until I raise my Intimidation level some more. Officer-wise, I have the Mechanic to make flying hassle-free, the Pilot to make sure nobody can leave the fight unless I permit them to, and the Veteran Officer for a combat bonus until I can finally locate the Military Officer.

I believe the veteren is only for damage vs. Aliens. If you want a combat bonus but can't fi.d ilitary officer (military base overstocked, congregating ercanaries rumor) look for the templar or bounty huner officers (can be found with the wild rumors "deadly rouge traders have cleared everything of value" and "treasure hunter fleet operating at xxx".

In terms of profit I've had mixed success with Explorers and pirates, however trade embargoes between friendly factions wound the former's ability to be safe with valuable cargo because they need to go farther to sell their unlicensed goods.

I often drop stuff in the Stash when these events occur and hang out with the Indy worlds for a few years while they figure out the politics

Oh my god, I forgot all about this topic. So much unknown info back then.
I normally don't post in threads where it's been over a year, but this thread brought back some good memories. Oddly enough, a lot of the info hasn't changed at all.

I find all classes to be really hard on insane. My biggest problem is the surrender button
