On a recent play through, I had to fight an Orcin before crossing the bridge when escaping from prison. That wasn't something I had to in previous play-through so I'm guessing it went a long with a recent update. What other changes between versions are people noticing that impact play? It's one thing to get a list of changes like "improved archer AI" but how is that change affecting play, etc.

We list everything that changes in the log, so everyone can just look at the log or the blog and get an idea of what each update brings.
The line item you are asking about is:
v1.2.17 - 2/9/2014 - Added Boss to end of Red Hill Prologue (New Free content)

Added dialogue, added bosses, changes to drops in the chests (more potions), etc ... I'm taking a new party through and they are currently in the Krellin Deeps. Still finding lots of the same types of items (I have 4x Flat Bows!) ... but it's okay. They'll sell.

Maybe Andrew and I can find a particular chest type that is too narrow, although I continue to have a majority of games with all, or nearly all, unique gear through Oskahold.

It depends a lot too on what difficulty you're playing at. Lower difficulties get so many more goodies that they're bound to have lots of repeats.

As mentioned before ...its an on-going process to improve loot across the entire game. I suppose that means its an on-going process that people will complain about it Also, are you really sure those are the same Flatbow? We haven't differentiated variants by name (yet).

Yup, all were exactly same spec. Since Oskahold, I haven't seen any dupes.

Is each individual chest randomized or is it by area? On the current play through (about to kill the Shaman) I've gotten the least impressive equipment of any other play through but it seems like I've gotten more potions. Not too worried about it but the chests that held good stuff before were a little of a disappointment this time. I can just hear big V glaring "I fought through a ratkin horde for that?".

Each chest is a "drop" and as the author designed the level, may have potions, items or any mix of loot at any percentage of occurrence. If you roll badly on several occasions, you will have less treasure. Like all RPGs, drops are part of the game and sometimes you'll have awesome drops and sometimes, not so great.

....or awesome drops that are totally useless, like the spear Vraes party gets a great hammer while the hammer Vraes party gets a great spear...but that is part of RPGs, especially computer ones.
Addendum. With a mix of .21 & .23, Hammer Vraes party has about 5 swords (no light blades), three spears & several starter maces. Did get one mace that IIRC is the same as the best early Oskahold one. Three of the swords & two of the spears are better than the mace....
