I never read beyond Winter's Heart. After Robert Jordan passed, and we found out someone else was going to finish the books, I said "F*** that!".

Also, I look forward to a franchise of Star Traders games and hope that you don't mind that I'm borrowing your brilliant ideas for future sequels.

whos, mine or theirs?
If mine, go for it :-) I love this game and am a small startup developer as well, so anything I can do to help is great - I am way more interested in the final product

heres another question, have you considered an actual ship size? you could tie it to the hit % so that smaller ships make for more evasive ships whereas larger ones can hold more supply.

Back to officers - do the abilities stack? IE if I have 3 mechanics do I increase the chance of repair/mechanic bonus's?

Edit: the modify button in upper right of posts made by you.
2nd edit: sorry, used to be a forum moderator and we frowned double posts, doesnt necessarily apply here.

The number of Hull points is representative of the ship's size. the unadjusted armor maximum (before upgrades) is considered the structural size -- so the ratio between hull and unadjusted armor is the ration between size and structure (how empty is the inside of the ship?)
If you have 3 mechanics you have a bug. Any clues for a developer on how you did this?
EDIT: I like to keep posts to a minimum to avoid extra unneeded pages

In past versions there have been several defects that allowed multiple instances of the same officer to be on the same ship at the same time. I have attempted to fix them. If you do see it in v3.8.0 I would love to hear how/who was duplicated =)

It was more of a curiousity then an actual "hey look what I did!"

It woulda been awesome if it was cumulative, or if there was say multiple officers of the same type with different skill levels to pick from.
As a side note, they should probably have a more fixed hiring fee, i hired an officer for $10 plus a %. Better to hire when u r low on cash.

"Better to hire when u r low on cash. " This is so true !! I was doing some exploring & it was very profitable, so I got to the planet where the officer was that I wanted to hire. so I hired him first, for like $200 & a %, then sold off my cargo for 30 or 40K But I did buy a few rounds of spice & some entertainment too... ;D

Aileman,
The idea of officer rank is definitely interesting. If you could encounter a Mechanic Rank 4 and know that she is way more skilled than your current Rank 2 mechanic, it would be a good trade. Or, a more difficult choice would be to ditch your Rank 3 Veteran for a Rank 4 Mechanic, etc.

I would be ecstatic to actually be able to get the officer I need.I have been cruising the galaxy reading every rumor I can get my hands on. Popping into every wild zone to see if the scout just happens to be there. the 3 times I have gotten the rumor for the scout I have been to late in getting there, even if the event was a mere 10AU away. I currently have the military, political and the mechanic, and I just stumbled into the port they were at, not once did I get a rumor they were to be found there. I am in favor of a monster jobs fashion, have some officeres seek the captain out when they reach a high enough rep / rank. or maybe have a place to go for some facts, because the rumors are starting to piss me off edit: finally... finallly... success. yay me. /whining

maybe, instead of putting an actual number on the level just like in real life, it should be how the introduction describes the officer.
Political officer low level: she has no back bone high level: she's a mean witch
military officer low: chicken high: he'll rip your head if you say something about his pink fluffy slippers
Spy low: No...white face paint, black and white stripes sweater and a beret is not a thulun disguise. Quit hiding in your invisible box, we can still see you. high: Here's a fine spy...wha??? where'd she go?
...or something similar
