So, I am curious about what you other fanatic players think about increasing the number of events that allow you to recruit the various officers.
Yesterday I had something frustrating happen to me that has happened a few times before. I had just finished crossing the god-forsaken abyss of red-space between De Valtos Prime (1,1) to Opix IV (7,30) after hearing a rumor in the spice hall that I could recruit me a military officer. I had spent the last 5 levels going from port to port, looking for this rumor.
I landed, dismissed my first mate, and went to the palace. I made the important mistake of not dismissing him BEFORE I landed. The rumor was still in place, but because I did not have an open officer slot when I landed, I could not recruit him without going back into space and landing again.
The infuriating thing was that when I landed again, the rumor had ended, and the military officer was no longer available. Add in the fact that in my excitement and haste, I had forgotten to fuel up on water before leaving syndicate space, and the local exchange had only 5 water for sale, and I was pretty irrate for a moment.
Well, I made it back to green space by stealing water from whatever poor saps crossed my path, but it wasn't pretty.
I would suggest making the events that generate officers more frequent, or increasing the time they last so that they do not end before your happy ass can cross the vastness of known space to get there.
Also, what do you guys think of varying the locations where you can recruit officers a little more? Like this:
Palace
First Mate
Political
Stardock
Mechanic
Military Officer
Spice Hall
Spy
(Doctor?)
Wild Zone
Scout
Veteran
Exchange
(Smuggler?)
(Quartermaster?)
You could change it up a bit for the most appropriate fits when you add in other officers, like putting a pilot in the Stardock, and the military officer in the Spice Hall.
