So I've got a party with Vraes using a sword and Selen using two light blades and I'm deep in the under tunnels below Brunehorn, but I haven't seen a new blade since I left Riven Field. Selen is still using blades she bought in the assault on Redhill. Damage is starting to drop and it would be nice if there were somewhere to get blades around here, or find them in a chest. I'm thinking of doing a long hike back and seeing if I can't find some up in Braes territory or something.

All that and I haven't seen a single staff the whole game either. Am I just getting incredibly bad loot drops?

Blades are in the north my friend.

That's great, but in the mean, time this group is just becoming less and less fun to play as the monsters are getting insane. I'm having to retry turns on even non-boss groups and I hate having to retry turns.

Hammer crew should head south first, blades north probably.

Do you think there would be some way to tip players off ahead of time about this, maybe at the out going guard post in Riven Field:
"What can you tell us about Baron Koda's lands?" "Blah, blah, blah and their smiths forge some of the best hammers and spears that can be found in Steel."
"What do you know about the Braeys family?" "Fierce bladesmen every one of them..."
Something subtle, that would give the attentive player some clue about where to head based on how they've allocated points. Since not everyone is going to play the game through 10 times, it would be nice to have a little pointer so you could get it right the first time.

I feel you, even with upgraded gear I've died a dozen times fighting the cultists. Because of the ranged cultists the only way to really fight is to retreat and regroup endlessly which is tedious. I've been trying way to often (due to impatience) to sludge out combats when I should fall back.

Outsider - what types of strategies are you using to bring them down? I played through on Normal and never use the "retreat and regroup" tactic.

Typically I try to move up on the ranged cultists but when you have the dagger cultists who ignore the closest target or the spiders who do the same you can't protect the casters. That or there's a cleric cultist who combined with two or more ranged cultists will shred Vraes alive. My ability to land hits and kill has slowed significantly, I'm getting hit far more often as well. I don't know if not training in quite some time would have anything to do with it. I've gained at least a level, maybe two on each character without training. Quite often I'm moving my casters around and trying to keep my melee guys up which eats a lot of AP and SP. My melee moves in, cultists and spiders move past during the course if combat, ranged cultists eat melee, melee monsters eat my casters. This means bottle necks or retreat and regroup to protect casters while not getting decimated by ranged.

Outsider - thanks for the extra details on it! We are working on a set of shortcuts that will allow us to you to return to Brunehorn quickly. Without a doubt, having untrained characters puts you at a disadvantage. If you are struggling to soak damage and hit enemies, have you reviewed your gear to be sure you are packing armor and accuracy over other possible bonuses?

If you are struggling to soak damage and hit enemies, have you reviewed your gear to be sure you are packing armor and accuracy over other possible bonuses? Vraes is geared toward avoidance (parry mostly), +HP and armor. Selen is a blend of rogue gear (evasion, security, and stealth) and +hit/damage, Kyera +SP (heal, buff, debuff, cleanse, and replenish), and Kjartan +hit/damage/SP. In afraid to lose avoidance on my melee characters cause everything hits so hard. Selen probably does the most damage per round so I think she's alright and Vraes was designed to shrug off hits but is also missing the most so I could see +hit helping him. Kyera does no damage and uses a staff in this build so that's a hit. Kjartan has rk 1 of his Level 18 AoE fire ability which does okay but otherwise he has a ranked up fireball and choking ash. I manage to do some pretty decent damage most of the time but the tactics and damage the cultists do make for very drawn out combats (30-1hr per, easy).

It comes along with some other nice tidbits of world background.

They still have a very clear preference for their traditional types (for example, the Braeys are still selling the best blades and bows, but they are selling some lower level options for Hammers / Spears, and visa versa). Hopefully this help you keep up the damage and accuracy as you face harder enemies!

Without a doubt, having untrained characters puts you at a disadvantage. If you are struggling to soak damage and hit enemies, have you reviewed your gear to be sure you are packing armor and accuracy over other possible bonuses? THIS CAN'T BE SAID ENOUGH: A lot of the tactics that dominated in EP 1 will not work in EP 2. You have to adjust. There are plenty of successful tactics in EP 2, but the cult temple is supposed to be a tough place to go so you're taken on new tactics and hard fights at the same time. I had some issues in EP2 ar first, swapping gear to focus on parry and accuracy made a world of difference. I even switched from a 2-H Spear to a 1-H Spear to get that nice Rim Shield some use. Vras, esp with Stone Skin, is a beast for damage. Not as dominating as in EP 1, but he can anchor the party. My Vras is a spear guy. I went north first (random chance) and dealt with the Orcin caves before heading east to deal with the cultists. The Orcin caves have a few really tough fights, esp with a just out of EP 1 party but over all it seemed easier than the cult maze. The gear from the cultest area (esp those nifty shields) would have helped a lot in the Orcin caves, but the reverse is also true. Some of the gear you pick up in the Orcin caves helps out n the cult areas. Plus, you get a little more time to realize how different EP 2 enemies fight. Orcin cave fights are closer to EP 1 fights than cult fights, so it seems. The cults area is massive. But it's a good massive. Once it's done. It's done so enjoy it, every brutal fight.
