1) there needs to be a log of events and notices so I can re-read them
2) there needs to be a display of who is at war with who so I know who not to attack, who I shouldn't be trading with, and who I should be spying on.

I agree that these would be useful additions.
I'm always concerned about battery life and game memory. A log of events would be potentially risky for both. We would have to come up with some guidelines and filters to keep it under control.
I'm not sure about the second one -- regarding this question, do you dislike or have a particular issue with the Conflicts screens?

Klingbell click status then click cargo and in that screen there should be buttons that will take you to current rumors you know about, current conflicts, and the galactic map.

Having a political officer will give you alerts about if there could be penalties trading in a particular exchange. Also, at the beginning of space encounters, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and you'll see the relationships that ship's faction has with other factions. If you see that there is an alliance with a faction that you are friends with, then it's strongly advisable that you don't try blowing the ship out of the water!
Note that with pirates, if you attack and disable pirates but don't destroy them, you won't get problems with the faction affiliated with that pirate, BUT again, if that pilot's faction is allied with another faction, then you'll get negative RP with that other faction.

for the log, it doesn't have to be a complete retelling of everything that has happened since day 1, but perhaps just keep track of the last 10 events. i'll miss something that pops up and i have no way of looking to see what it was. as for the 2nd point, perhaps the conflicts screen could be easier to access? i wasn't even aware of it's existence. oops

There was a feature request a while back for "Filtered" logs. IE, the ability to apply searches/filters to the ship log in order to actually FIND useful stuff

That would b more complicated as it would have to remember every toast, if it just remered a small # then forget them it would b less resource consumming... i think, i never went past visual basic in programming.
