I am using the grapeshot upgrade, but it doesn't seem to be working right. When I fire grapeshot, it's doing damage to the hull, masts, and sails, but almost none to the crew. I just fought a Military Sloop, and only fired grapeshot at it, and ended up sinking it by completely destroying the hull, and never did any damage to the ship's crew. It's masts and sails were also heavily damaged in the process. It seems like grapeshot should never do hull damage, and rarely do mast damage. I can see some sail damage being done. But there's no way you should be able to destroy a ship's hull without doing any damage to the crew.

I think the problem is that there are 2 upgrades, 'grapeshot' (which is supposed to destory people) and 'chainshot' (which is supposed to destroy ships -- their masts at any rate). At least that is what their descriptions says they do.
But the behaviour seems to be on back-to-front with the chainshot destroying people and leaving the ships intact, while the grapeshot destroys ships.
At least I think this is what I am seeing -- my chainshot is brand new ...

That's possible. I'll grab chainshot the next time I see it available and see if that takes out people.

Both have worked properly for my ships on my HTC one 4.4 droid. Unless there is a dice roll that isn't working consistently, but every time I use the chainshot it wrecks the mast and hulls of the other ships as it is supposed to...

En1gma have you tried the grapeshot? Is it wrecking people for you? (it is not for me). Unfortunately my captain with the chainshot died before I could test it properly.

I haven't utilized grapeshot since the android update, as I draft sailors into my roster- kind of a floating slave ship, so I don't want to kill off the enemy crew. I'll test it out tonight and get back to you though (hopefully I have a sailor with enough cash to purchase it)

Kill the crew, preserve the ship, making its price better when you burn it for salvage. (what am I missing here?)

Lol that's just how I play if I'm playing a pirate, I don't care about how much damage I do to the ship, I only care about the crew and cargo: I usually go straight to a boarding action anyway so if I fire my cannons it is typically to slow them down enough to either close the distance, or to make a getaway. 95% of the time I board the enemy and spare the ship. Back to the matter at hand. I bought and used both the chain and grapeshot with a captain that has the most commanding skill that I have. Bought about 100 s&p and sent forth to wreak destruction upon the foul Kahimer. Of the 40 or so of the chainshot that was spent, every shot either missed or dealt damage to either the hull or sails, primary damage was dealt to the masts of the enemy, as intended. However, one shot struck the enemy crew and nothing else. When the grapeshot was utilized, of the 40-50 or so shot that was spent, only 6 damage was dealt in total or the crew of the enemy ships. The remainder was dealt to the enemy ship much as the chainshot would deal its damage. In conclusion: I believe that the two are acting exactly the same as the chainshot should.

Cool En1gma ! I am never one to argue against role-playing. It's a big part of 'get as much fun as you can'. But looks like grapeshots are broken, chainshots are probably ok then. I will test more when I get an opportunity to buy chainshots.

My coffers are rarely empty Whatever silver is taken away from the ships salvage value isn't missed, as I take great pleasure in making the vile Federation fight my crusade to cripple both their own navy and their entire way of life. Still waiting to make my conscripted crew raze and burn their own hometowns and cities. When can we get to do that again?

Just so I am clear ... you are getting the button, and able to activate it for both upgrades? I do seem to have that result in testing.
The report is related to the relative effectiveness of Grapeshot vs. Chainshot. It uses a modified version of Decks/Engines from Star Traders and is balanced to about 30% more, on average, damage to the type of target and 30% less to the non-target.
This may not be enough, and it also may be malfunctioning for some reason. I'm looking into it.
