I hired this apprentice architect as a crew member.
He has said 0 words to me.
Not when we repair in town, not when we repair on beaches, not when we look at new ships ...
what I would really like is if he would tell you whether or not it would be a good idea to swap your damaged ship for the one that damaged you but you captured anyway. This is often a hard thing to guess.
But it is lonely sailing with this guy. I don't need BG2 sorts of romance scripts, but, well it would be nice if he said _something_.

I have recruited two officers. Neither have spoken a word to me in over two years sailing together. I mentioned this on the wish list board on topic 'a few suggestions' a while back. Not even sure what benefits they have. Paid 5000 gold to recruit one which was supposed to help pay for medicine for my son!

Right now the officers are only providing mathematical bonuses related to combat, sailing, morale, Tavern, Palace, Gather, Repair, Canon, Market and Shipyard.
I am working on some ways to make this valuable set of bonuses more accessible to the player.
I'm not sure who this is referring too, I'm afraid this might not be an office by a character in the story?

There's a character in World Harbour who wants to see 5000 gold before he will let you recruit him. I don't think that he takes the gold, at any rate all he says is that he wants to see it....

Cory it was a joke saying I paid 5000 gold to have an officer onboard which should have gone towards paying for medicine for the story!
Grävling that officer is the one I am on about. I have got him as an officer. Got him ages ago. He took the 5000 gold but not spoke a word since. I think he helps out in trading in ports. Strange he won't take your gold.

His name is Dunedin Paz and he adds bonuses to merchanting and Trade Hall equations world-over. As Cory said, we will work on exposing his bonuses more.

Talking to him, he said that he only wanted to see 5000 from me, he wouldn't take it, he just wanted proof that I was a good merchant or something like that. I think if he took your money, then that was a bug. I'm already full of officers, so I didn't try to get him.

grävling - I believe philr1 is saying that if you agreed to pay Dunedin, then he takes the 5,000 and joins your crew. The conversation is twisted around, but it doesn't sound like a bug to me.

He says he needs to see 5000 in my coffers to prove my worth, and that he doesn't intend to take the money. If he actually takes it, I would call that a bug. Though I will return with the 5000 coins and then see if his song changes, and he now says he needs the 5000 silvers to pay off what he owes in town, or something.

Okay, exact quote: If you return and show we that you have at least 5,000 silver in you coffers, your offer is of interest. If not, I will not join you. I do not intend to take the money, only to believe you are worth your salt. www2.openend.se/~lac/AoP/paz.pngI would s/only/I just need to see it in order/ Now, I have never come back with the money. Maybe his little troubles with the local authorities will get worse and he will have to take the money to come with you -- but right now my expectation is that he will join for a share, but not cost me 5K.

I just hired Dunedin Paz as an officer. My 5000+ silvers are still on board the Fluyt.
I would like it if my ships officers talked to me from time to time. What I want this one to talk about is exceptionally cheap buying prices and exceptionally expensive selling prices for goods.

grävling - thanks for taking it full circle. Sounds like I read the post wrong / remembered Dunedin's request wrong, but that it's all working.
