Capture Alien Ships

I randomly ran into a Narvidian Hive ship, saw the stats, and immediately tried to run. After watching the distance close, I figured "I'm only level five. Let's go for it."

So I alternated between guns and board (depending upon distance), and the board kept gradually killing off the 900 crew of the hive ship. Once I got their crew down pretty low, I switched to targeting the engines in hopes of killing it and claiming the ship.

I managed to defeat the bugger with the ship intact, but it wouldn't let me enslave or take ship. I figure if I can defeat such a big ship, I should be able to take it.

They are not balanced or designed for use by the player -- your pilot skill points don't actually transfer over to the NARV equations, so it just cannot be taken as a ship.

But can you loot the thing for massive amounts of artifacts? I mean come on if there are literally 900 crew then you'd think you could make massive bank just on the numbers of alien dildos, hair dryers, and Elvis records

Look at it this way, your hands have five fingers. You have two arms and legs. Perhaps Narvidian ships just can't be piloted without seven fingers and three arms. We know next to nothing about the aliens. I know I wouldn't be able to read their gauges. Perhaps their ships are controlled psionically, and our brains don't broadcast the right frequency. Looting it, on the other hand - yeah, I think we should be able to do that.
