So my first group with Fyona is going to focus on doing lots of magical damage with Fyona stripping away Resistance. I'm find one thing that I really don't like about it is that it can't be cast at range 1. That means it can only be cast at 3 or 2. I don't mind the short range since she is a frontline fighter/healer, but not being able to use it at 1 really makes it cumbersome. Her and Vraes make a nice line, and all the baddies come in and get lined up to start the bashing. Fyona want's to cast Strickening to get everyone nice and soft but she can't at range 1. So, she has to step back and then cast a 3 AP spell. Which means she then has to move back up and get's 1 hit and is left with 0AP, or if she is using a 2H weapon her turn is basically used to cast 1 debuff. It's tedious. Making it available at 1 range or reducing the AP to 2 would make it a much better spell.

contributor - cool idea and thanks for the post. I have created #HOS-2405 to look into this one. If there was ever a character who could cast her (one) Curse at 1 range, it should be our holy warrior, Fyona!

Would be an interesting way to do a point-blank AoE... > ¤ » > > > ». > ¤. ». ». > ». > > Or however you think should be balanced Proboards messed up the spacing on this... All the arrows would be after the center in a reversed cone shape...

Making it available at 1 range or reducing the AP to 2 would make it a much better spell for my specific build, but reduce the points available for effects, thus nerfing the other builds where the effect is more important than the range.

It's a spell that I want to use, but it just doesn't seem to incorporate well into her other uses. If she could can at close range, or could somehow get a +1 mp that mitigated the need to do a two step, it would be more useful.

Yes, but if I may press the point a bit. I know I don't see everything that you devs do, but it certainly doesn't "feel" balanced in comparison to something like Choking Ash.
At level 3 Choking Ash does -4 Parry -3 Dodge and -8 Armor. It costs 8 sp and can be cast from 6-2 range. Holy Strikening does -3 Dodge and -8 Resistance. It costs 26 sp and can only cast at 3 or 2 range.
It is true that resistance is normally less than armor, but at the same time only the mage naturally does elemental damage. For all the other characters you have add something to them to do any elemental damage at all. So it doesn't seem like adding one more square to the range is going to suddenly throw it all out of whack. I mean it's already nerfed by not being castable at 4,5,6 range like all the other curses.

contributor - sorry that you don't like the balance of the talent. If your mage is the only one causing elemental damage then you probably shouldn't be using Holy Strickening. As mentioned, it is on our list to look closely at the Range 1 issue (it would be a cool unique thing for Fyona), but the actual penalties caused by the curse are correctly balanced by our charts.

Yes, of course my plan is to use it in conjunction with Burning Blades and other elemental gear. I'm just saying that it takes a special team build just to use this talent well. Whereas something like Choking Ash doesn't really need any other special adjustments to use it. And I'm not totally hating HS, just making my case for why I think it's justifiable to add that one range in without punishing it in some other way. It's also balanced by the cost and the fact the Fyona doesn't develop as deep pools of SP as the mages do, and maybe not even Kyera. Anywhoo, I leave it to your capable judgement.

I still say make it like a point blank LS, keep the penalties the same, but I think it would be awesome to have a debilitating blast she could use... Just let loose on the evil before you =)

Thanks for all the feedback. After a thorough scrub on these numbers, we've approved Fyona to cast her Holy Strickening curse at 1 range.
