They're rare in E1A1, but they start coming far more often once you get farther. Early game you use Thundering Blades instead of gear, to similar effect.

En1gma how far have you gotten with that group? That is my go to build for the most part every time, I cannot get away from it. You might want to sub in Tamilin with ToS. She curses res even more which is more damage and takes all the wind out of everything with -2 AP at the same time. I tried going ES with Vincent but archers were really hard and I had to switch to FA, FF and sword to balance the defenses to survive on nightmare. Episode 4 sees damage go nuts with the bracers from OH (+16 Magical damage, +6% SP drain) and War Mage's Mantle (+14 Magical damage).

My first close call in this game. At Episode 1 at Nordhall (at level 9), about a dozen ratkin ambushed me. I thought someone was going down the first round, but only Selen was really low. And once I scrolled, potioned, etc. the next round, I could sustain myself. Wow. That was quite an experience!
Edit: Also, are mobs usually 1 level higher than me at this stage - or did I miss XP?

I've dropped off from playing very much lately, but I have one up to Vrenhaulm, before the rescue in the Caverns. (Don't want to spoil too much...) The only group I have in the end game is Kinetic Energy. On Nightmare I'm sure the build would need to be tweaked, as it is terribly lacking in defenses, but for my playground of Normal it's a blast I just don't trust Tam like I do Selen when it comes to surviving that first round of combat should the Stealth roll fail.

Electrickening is for a separate group altogether, not the one you are currently running... Stick to the Gallows plan, but look here for other group ideas

achilles73 mobs will level with you almost invariably (there are caps for levels that monsters hit, so for example one area might never have monsters that are higher than level 12 despite your characters being level 15). If you hit all areas and fully explore, you will miss no exp. My walkthrough has every fight you can face in Act 1 if you are worried. Level 9 is bang on where you should be at Nordhall.

Yes, I am following your mob guide religiously - to make sure I haven't missed an encounter

Starting to run into real hard fights from Vermin tunnel onward around level 10. It takes forever for me to kill the Giant Rats in particular. Quite frustrating. This is one instance where I wish I am playing a DPS group

9-12 are some of the most difficult levels in the games. Double check your gear, and don't get cocky-- those veterans will rip right through you if you give them the chance. They have a very strong drive to destroy Oskahold, and the head of the snake is pushing them hard to stop you.

This is one instance where I wish I am playing a DPS group MP can be used for in combat gear changes in a pinch for those high armor targets. Not generally recommend, but sometimes it's worth it.

I am inside the vermin tunnels, and I have ran out of pots. Is there any way I can get back up without finishing the entire multiple lairs of dungeon?

Yup. I just experimented in case Selen isn't in a position to melee and must resort to bow. But she isn't doing much damage without any bow-related stats other than dex though

There are areas of rubble you can use to climb up to the vault. You can't get back to Oskahold until you go through like 3-4 fights, so pace yourself and keep your health up as best you can. Play super defensive, and just make it through.
Chances are good you'll see your first death down there if you can't keep your front line safe... Be. Careful. Good sir.

The first dungeon? I am desperate
