Hi guys, just a quicky:
After buying an insane piece of nano-ready body armour with ratings off the scale, I'm ready to upgrade from my 2-job computer. Does anyone have any good reccomendations? I earning about 1,400 plus doing capture missions, and saved up another 15k in an hours play, so am happy to save up. The question is, where to get them? I saw some three and fours for sale somewhere SW but can't recollect where.

Backrooms of Yakashima have a guy name Officer Mitchell. He sells high end computers with 4 job rating for around 18K or less depending on you negotiation skill.

So if you are what Mallor True calls 'a working Knight' that is what you want for the rest of the game. You could buy a 6 job computer for an order of magnitude more, but you will have other uses for that money. On the other hand, if you are a matrix rat, then again you want Officer Mitchell's computers. They are better than what you can find in any store, and for you the added features are worth the payout. You will also want to buy some +5 matrix armour from the man.

If for some reason -- perhaps Yakashima and you have been on 'shoot on sight' basis for quite some time now -- you find getting into a Yakashima backroom is out of the question, then you will be best off with a 3 job computer. The backrooms in the Streets sells one, or you can go to Mars Importers in Charlesbank for these. Their computer selection (both have the same list) is the second best in the game. And make sure to check out the Kraken Armour while you are at Mars Importers if you go there.

Thanks folks, very useful. Yakashima and I are neutral at the moment, with a rep of 1, so won't take long to build that up a few points. Can Mitchell be found in any Yakashima back room?

Yes. All the VIP lounges of any faction have the same cast of regular drop-ins.

The streets also have 2 good computer dealers, one of them stocks a 5 job computer, if your rep with them is higher you will get a better price.

Hi, I'm reviving this thread for just a small question about computers. Other than for increasing how many jobs one can have at the same time, is there any reason to go after the really expensive top tier ones if one's not doing data and matrix related jobs at all?I bought a cheap one that has room for 3 jobs and a pitiful 80 MB from Mars Importers and now that i'm swimming in money, was wondering if there was any point in further upgrading as so far I had no use for the MB other than for keeping those files randomly found/bought in stores and I have no idea what their rating stat is for.

dianne - if you are not working on any Matrix/data related jobs, then there is no real advantage to this today.

Either of the cheap 4 job computers from Yakashima backrooms -- which hardly cost any more than a 3 job computer -- are worth buying. Otherwise, there is no point unless you are a matrix rat.

Sorry to be the second person to necro this thread, but it seems more appropriate to ask my computer questions here than to make a whole new thread.. After noticing and reporting what I believed to be a slight mixup between stats/pricing for the 4 job Yakashima backroom computers, Cory Trese informed me that the difference in price between the two inexpensive models is "based more on the Hacking capabilities and IO ratings." Now, I'd thought that a computer's "Hacking capability" was pretty much determined by its storage (the bigger it is, the more paydata you can hack up), and don't have any idea what an IO rating is, given that the displayed "Rating" for either computer is a 2. Would one of you knowledgeable folks mind laying this all out for me? What is an IO rating and how can you determine a computer's Hacking capability?

IO is how many MP of data that can be transferred from a Host the the CPU, or from Storage to Active Memory.
This impacts your ability to load programs, download paydata, upload mission files, etc.

Ahh, I begin to understand. Presumably, with a higher IO rating, I'll see less "RAM Utilization Error. Memory Error." or "CPU Utilization Error. Access Denied." failures while hacking, yeah? Is there a way to determine the IO rating of a given computer in-game?
Edit: Nevermind, I've answered my own question! To anyone else who may be wondering the same thing, a full (?) list of computers with all of their stats (Icon, Armor, IO, RAM, Storage, Jobs) is contained in the "Computer Catalog" file available for purchase from various places all over the NBZ. ...And I'd better start saving my Yen, because that totally awesome, super cheap 4 job computer is really not very good for Jack Flash the Data Courier/Hacker.

In one of the computer catalogs it mentions a couple of 7 job computers. The Mars Corp Firewatch Prototype, and the Prototype System AlphaDex5.
I have the Yakashima Galaxy Hyper-Z, which stores 6 jobs.
Does anyone know where I can find one of the 7 job computers, preferably the AlphaDex5?
Thanks

I don't think they were ever fully put in the game besides the mention of them in the catalog mirror. Besides the TB's themselves, the great grävling I think is the only one that would know for sure.
