I've followed the rumors. I've hung around and patrolled dead planets. No aliens found after many many tries (except when "Exploring" a dangerous Wilds, where they seem to find one of my legs a tasty, but fortunately regeneratable, delicacy.)
My captain is Level 10 on Demanding as a Bounty Hunter.

Thank you. That helped. A lot of luck is apparently needed. That puppy was a bit of a challenge - from how well he changed range on me, must've been an amazing pilot!
So I can't Enslave or Take Ship, both of which make sense. Is there any reason to NOT "Destroy"? The system says "this will earn the ire of the Aliens", but how can that possibly impact me?

destroy alien ship causes an increased chance of alien encounters over the next 26 turns (or if you use a task killer, how knows)
you will also get double XP for any alien-encounter escape 'tokens' that are turned in during the next 52 turns (unless, of course, task killer)

I'm guessing it's a reference to (hitherto black-box) experience point gaining system.
I suspect it's something like "you get XP for escaping an alien" or "if an alien escapes you you get extra XP". The wording would seem to imply that an encounter garners your character different kinds of "tokens" that at the end of the encounter are turned in for XP, and probably other things too. (I suspect that hitting "Enslave" might generate a token that when turned in helps get your captain a "slaver" characteristic, if my theory is correct that is.)
But I'm purely guessing here.
(and yeah, that caught my eye as well, "hrmmm, another insight into the game engine?" I said to myself and started to think hard)

If you have enough tokens to turn in you can get one o them super high bounce rubber balls. Great for distracting aliens during encounters.
