Ok. I have been playing a few days now. Fairly much I suck at it.
The user guide is helpful, but honestly the tips aren't enough to really understand what is worth what. Only from seeing the devs reply to people do I start to see what I am missing. An advanced user guide.
I now know from other peoples questions, that weapons help in combat (which i was told) not just a little, but are worth as much as my skill level (which I found here and not in the guide). I also know that having armor or such from a well supplied dock giveaway me a nudge so to speak, and that crews are better from fringe worlds for some god awful reason even though I am a merchant, and I have no in game stat of that. These things would be great to have listed in a user guide in the game beyond the rather simplistic help button it currently has.
I honestly still don't know how to survive or even thrive in this game yet on anything other than normal. After a hundred or so captains on challenging and demanding and many times of being shot and killed even when I have more guns armor and engine, it would be nice to know why... Also why is there no gunnery skill for torpedoes and guns?
It seems to.me either I am seriously missing something. Or this game is HARD to start...

Cory, if you're willing to sit down with me and chat on an IM program or whatnot, I wouldn't mind writing up a beginners guide.

I have read most of those on the forums, but thank you, it is nice to see the links all together too.A lot of it was still new and very useful.
I still would love to see an advanced user guide with many of the (incredibly important mind you) formulas on how things are calculated. Kinda like alpha centauri for those who have played it. Just being able to look at one for things like water usage, boarding combat, gunnery, or exploring would be immensely helpful.
As it is, I do well on normal. But when I go to challenging, it is an exercise in futility. Like smashing my face onto a brick wall repeatedly because i like the pretty crimson droplets floating through the air. In space.
Anyhow. It would just be nice is all. I do seem addicted to this game. It is wonderful, especially considering the size and format it is on. Seriously, a full blown pc version someday would be awesome. This seems inherently more complex than any other I've ever even played. Quite impressed.
I remember what else would be nice, if nite mentioned by someone else, is an actual explanation on what the class abilities actually do... Some I get. Some I don't. I haven't gotten the military one down right yet for example. I just run out of time trying to get surveillance data and either the contract expires or i give up.and attack the welp. I know i must be doing something wrong though.

There is a dedicated team of community members working on a user guide. I have heard it is near completion, and over 200 pages long. It has the details you need, as Cory has divulged much of the mathematical secrets to the writers. and it will certainly be posted all over the forum when it is ready.

Ah excellent! I've since seen mention about it on the forum here after I made my post earlier. It's good to see developers actually working with fans. There are too few companies out there that do (my favorite miniature company is one of them ) Well, I suppose most of my wish list here then has/is/will be fulfilled I suppose I'll sit back and wait for the manual to come out then.

Ah actually the Merchant Guide mentioned above was written by me, not Slayer NZ. If he had written one it though, probably would've been better than mine. Any news on the Dr Liz consolidated guide?
