Just curious if Age of Pirates can be considered as Star Traders on water? (ie. reskinned with some basic mechanic changes)
I absolutely love Star Traders and bought Templar Assault and Cyber Knights a long time ago, so I am familiar with the quality that is put into these games.

They are both trading simulators. Age of Pirates is built on v2 of the RPG engine we developed.
There are definitely some major similarities. And there are many major differences.
Age of Pirates is on sale for $1. I'd suggest snagging free, giving it a play and deciding if you want to sail the high seas for just a buck.

You'll have some things to adapt to, like the Wind, the different map style, trade triangles, and the single-rank rules.

Wind is the biggest difference between ST and AoP. Wind is more troublesome than the red zones in ST since there is no way you can beat upwind without wasting time and rations. Also you need "Shot and Powder" or your guns will not shoot. Also. If you want to be a bad boy in ST there are always the Independent systems you can go to for shipyard and supplies. No such thing in AoP! If you are bad enough, the only thing any port will allow you to enter is the Tavern. In higher difficulties, piracy in AoP is a very costly exercise that should be exercised with extreme care.
