So the real benefit of a mine three is gaining an RP for only 5 maintenance.
I find this hard to build the same as starport 4. If I build a den 1, yes I am adding a building, but I am also getting spice to help with morale. I guess I would rather have a mine 3 extract 3 minerals than generate any rp. Then I could reduce my mine by 30% and build something else I need....like dens or if I want research and morale boost.

If you are not building to win the RP game, then you may want to skip Mine 3.
It is like a Talent you don't like, skip it for your unique play style.

so be it, they will have to cost a little bit more but the profits from the RP will pay for it.
Next update you'll see Mine 3 mining 3, but that means a later Mine upgrade won't because 6 has to be mining 5.

Also, the next build has better over-population controls relative to QP. Yeah it's getting to be a real problem on the first planet. The overpopulation it pretty hard to control, since for every population it takes double to make it happy. EJ: I have 10 population, so I build 5 hab II units, and 5 factories to keep them happy. ON a 1uility 10 planet, that would leave no room for mines, and you just know it will keep growing. This is Cadar Prime right now, where I've got mostly Hab III units to house them, Factory III to let them work, and a Spice Hall III to keep them happy:
