In the politics screen if I tap on my advisor she says I don't have enough spice to satisfy X population and ultimately this is bad for our economy. I'm curious to know in what sense this isn't good. Does spice contribute directly to the economy or only through influencing morale? In the latter case, if everyone is happy then not having Spice Dens doesn't really hurt my economy, though I might hurt my research. At the moment if there's one thing I skimp on it's spice halls, because, with limited slots an exchange gets me a lot more bang for each quality point.
If spice only influences economy through morale the advisors advice could be something like "Ultimately, low morale is not good for our economy." This will help the player understand how it affects economy. Also the Library entry on Spice only really tells what it is, not what it does. A line like "Without spice it is hard to raise or maintain morale on overpopulated worlds." would make it more clear. And if it directly influences economy, that should be in their too.

one more thing about spice and advisor spice only affects planets where they are produced, so look at that example:
planet A 10 spice pop 8 planet B 10 spice pop 8 planet C 10 spice pop 8 planet D 0 spice pop 3 planet E 0 spice pop 3 planet F 0 spice pop 3
we have 30 spice and 33 pop, advisor would think that we dont have enought spice, but in fact no morale will drop and it will stay at 10. is there any side effect except morale loss? i didnt observe any bonus after building 5 spice on less that 6 pop planets, expect loss of income due maintain cost and proper bonuses from buildings (+ RP,EP etc)
so if there arent any - maybe spice numbers should be recalculated on maintain screen to show real lack of spice?

Not enough spice is bad because otherwise the star traders would have to face their grimdark place in the quadrant stone cold sober. After they finished screaming their heads off, those who retain any vestige of sanity will make sure they are never in such an unfortunate condition again.
