Hey ! I'm having a good game on Demanding difficulty and I don't wanna make big mistakes so I'd like to know what means red and green specs for the ship ? I tried to search on the Internet and on the forum but I didn't find any information, same goes for the tut : www.corytrese.com/games/startraders/game_ship.htmlAnd I have another question, what's the point to directly buy a ship with no trade-in, you keep your old ship and you can switch ? Thanks

Fuel use in Red and Green Sectors.
If you buy directly, your old ship is placed in "Dry Dock" and you can switch between them.
Your Captain and Officers are a single unit, moved between Ships as you wish.
Each ship has a unique set of cargo, upgrades, morale and crew bonus points.

Cory Trese Does that ("0,00") mean that some ships can fly without consuming fuel in green sector as long as their solar sails are 100% ?

Cory Trese Does that ("0,00") mean that some ships can fly without consuming fuel in green sector as long as their solar sails are 100% ? Yep! I make a lot of ships around lvl 20 reach that point, even ones with Shalun mercs. But I lose a sail, and its back to leaking like a balloon with a hole in it. D:

Bohrson : the ship designer is taking your pilot skill into account so the 0.0 is not only due to the ship in itself. Raising Pilot is always a good idea

Pilot definitely provides fuel efficiency bonuses ... so constantly boosting Pilot is not a bad thing. There are a number of different things that help ... from the fabled manual: The water-fuel calculator is concerned about a number of things: - Is the ship fully staffed (100% Crew)
- How many crew members?
- How large is the ship's hull?
- Does the Ship Have 30+ Solar Sail?
- Is the Ship's Solar Sail Full Repaired?
- Does the Ship Have 30+ Reactor Engine?
- How high is the Captain's Pilot?
- How high is the Captain's Intimidation?
- What is the current difficulty?
The scaling equation that's used has rapid fall-off towards the edges, so there are a number of ways to push the results out to Infinity (the goal of most bounty hunters, certainly) for Green and even Red. A single solar sail damage can make a big difference. Three missing sails can be a serious problem unless the Captain's skills are up to it. Cory's tip guide for getting to best fuel range: - Pilot & Intimidate = 1/2 of Hull
- Nano-Coat Solar Upgrade to 30+ Solar Sail
- Always Repair Sails first
- Next Repair Engines
- Finally, Repair Hull
- Keep a Full Crew when possible (100%)
- Running out of water-fuel is only an issue without Luxury Rations
- Negotiation can help Luxury Rations last longer
Fuel consumption and current range can be view on the Cargo page of the status screen. The captain's pilot skill is most useful for reducing fuel usage on ships with high hull, whereas his intimidate skill will reduce fuel usage for ships with large crews and for travel in red sectors. Me ... I never ever bother flying with luxury rations, have an efficient ship, but always keep at least 20 units of WF in my hold at all times. I usually buy the WF Cargo hold upgrade thingy, so can carry 25 units of the pure goodness without it impacting on (a) ship signature, and (b) available hold for other items.

Officer Genious beuns slayernz Thank you all for your answers, I thought the game was coded in order to let at least a minimal fuel consumption. Now, I have a new objective, if you know what I mean. slawyer Wow, thanks ! I'm gonna make a good use of that.

Is this correct. there is a code to check if Sails >=30, but no code to check if Engines >=30. This clarifies the in-game manual, which states : ""Does the ship have 30+ Reactor Engine?" English is not main primary language, so i confess that i always had a doubt if "30+" would mean " greater or equal than 30". This bit of information is relevant , as my custom starter ship has 24 Engines, which i upgrade to 30 with ancient reactor engines. Now i can píck Dreadnought Architecture instead. This means my starter can have a bigger Hull with Less Armor.
