This isn't anything I haven't already posted in my webcomic comment section, and I'm still down a working pc but I DO have some X4 stuff that I've done and are working on, including a strike fighter and a tweaked Wolf Cruiser. Tweaked as in I followed Fallen's original top-down artwork and changed a detail or two. The fluff says they do fill a number of roles so there are probably a nice variety of external differences on what was originally an identical hull. Perhaps enough to have multiple ship classes. I'm betting the same would be true of the strike fighter. It has a crew of five and fills the role of what would be PT boats, Pegasus class hydrofoils, or the Mark V special operations boat. That means stealth missions, fast attack, exploration/recon, probably electronic warfare. When I get back in the saddle I could probably make some unofficial wallpapers if anyone is interested. Would be one less thing for Fallen to jump on for a while anyway.

Epic work!
The entire fleet for 4X was designed with the Vae Victus as the baseline model, so its awesome to see the progression over the years!

Thanks. I can see the influence in the layout. The artwork looked identical between two ships' flight deck / bridge sections. I kept the layout and look but increased the size of the forward screens to reflect the smaller size of the strike fighter and added a second set to indicate a second deck in that section on the cruiser. On the tech drawing I need to fix the bow section of the cruiser's forward view. I have artwork for the colony ship / transport but probably won't use it unless asked.
I'm also seeing if I can work out the whys and hows for the sails. Going back to BattleTech, solar sails unfurl from their starships to recharge their FTL drive. You don't really see sails represented in the art so I figured they did something similar; perhaps speeding up the charging of the Star Drive. To increase the surface area I figured the sails unfurl from compartments in any aerofoils, like those of the Victus. I'll eventually show it.

So, if so many ships draw from the Victus, does that mean the Juror Class ships were the first to be widely available/made for interstellar travel?

I'm not familiar with that one. But many classes seem to be derived from an earlier hull.

Many ships built for travel and combat seem to have similar hull shapes to the Victus. Frieghters and Military ships obviously cannot always hold that design, but many seem to trace back to the Vae Victus in Hull Pattern. And with the Imperial Navy having similar design elements, either the Victus was the first or it just had some amazing design breakthroughs when introduced.

I figured that when writing the tech fluff. Personally I have no idea whether the Victus or the Valentine came first. They're identical going by the artwork.

In another post in this forum your discussing the solar sails. There's an anime called eureka 7 that uses a similar concept wherein an organic compound is fitted over the hull sections kinda like a solar panel. Anyways I've always imagined the solar sails to be something along these lines. Capturing the solar energy to be used in propelling the ship through space. I figured that a tradional sail design would be a bit of an easy target and vulnerable in combat. BTW dayan do you make avatar designs for the forum? Or fallen do you guys mind if I take some of the artwork from star traders to make an avatar? I don't want to just rip off your intellectual property without permission
