A ship that can construct things away from planets. For example beacons that extend the green space from your planets and act as Early warning alerts for xenos. Sent from my Dell Venue using Tapatalk 2

Nice idea, I like that. But "just a beacon" seems a bit too underdeveloped for the task. Expanding on the idea, they could be a tech branch of their own: E.g. Beacon Level 1 only extends scan range. Lvl 2 activates greenspace, but only 1 field range. Lvl 3 gives the standard 2 range. If 3 levels are enough, add one slot for skills or equipment (like armor) on levels 2 and 3. If we want more levels, you need 4+ to add slots. Of course they can be shot down by the Xenos, invulnerable beacons I find a bit too much. But they should be maintenance-free after deployment: we can already built probes that last for decades, so the Exiles should do better with their advanced technology. They could also use skills, so you can turn one into a refueling and/or repair station.
Oh, and we need a ship to deploy them: That could open up another use for the Exo-Scout or the Transport; skill "deploy beacon". Maybe both can hold only a fixed number (say 1 for the Scout and 5 for the Transport).

I was told a couple of days ago about this being impossible due to the lore of ST- no autonomous machines that can communicate with one another- everything must be operated by a person..... Awesome idea though Unless we could construct some sort of manned space-station on the edge of the green zone to extend it further- defensive weapon platforms, anyone?!

How about a really expensive ship that ...
I've got some ideas that we can execute without violating Shalun Law =)

Self-service gas stations; and lo behold, problem with Shalun's Law solved Beacons don't have to be autonomous. Let them send scan signals to a human-operated console, where the operator needs to determine if anything is going on (think flight control tower on an airport) . If that needs to be codified into the game, add a building for it: Flight Control Center, or something like that. And for folks who don't want to waste a Quality slot on it, offer a spacestation (aka orbital) version (at higher maintenance cost of course) .

A super carrier or mobile star base with its own green spaces would be cool. That's kind of what I thought the carrier did at first from the description.

Super Carrier I don't see a problem (with my limited lore knowledge). Something the size of a Mobile Starbase (aka "That's no moon...") the Templars might object to: a bit too far up the powerscale for them to control it easily if needed. Not to mention all the bitching and infighting between the factions: who will be commander, how to settle the quotas for personnel per faction ("What? All bridge staff is Rychart, and the janitorial crew just *happens* to only hail from us deValtos? Such insolence, Solar War!") , etc.

Unless each faction gets to crew their own space station- allow only one per faction? I like this idea, but who knows if this fits in with the story. Shalun help us if the Xeno develop single man assault craft to target our 2m wide exhaust port =)

Just wield a manhole cover over it, or make a turn in the pipe so ot DOESN'T GO DIRECTLY TO YOUR REACTOR

Originally we did have the Carrier working that way but it was awful, not fun at all. Active > Passive for the player's enjoyment. Green Space control may come later down the road in the form of star bases. Area Effect Repair and Refuel will be the hallmark of the Super Carrier, which again, is focused on giving the player fun active tactical stuff to decide on.

+1 for the star bases ; I always wanted to build my own space stations.
