OK, next stupid question: Why is it that when I think of a decent name for my Captain, he is killed quickly, but if I give him a stupid name, he lasts forever? My current Captain, banana, is doing rather well! I think my next game will be with the Welsh Captain Dai Swn!

You wont permanently empty a planet but it can take a lot of turns for it to replenish. I believe Cory did mention before in a different thread that you can permanently empty out a planet. (sorry, don't have time to search for it)

The notable exception to this was my best ever captain, Reynolds. No awards will be given for guessing the custom ship name. Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards

How does faction type figure into palatial rumors?

It isn't so much faction influenced, but rather planet-influenced. Planets with higher ratings (eg Palace=10, Econ = 10, Secure = 10, etc) will yield more relevant and up to date rumors than planets with low ratings of, say 3 or 4. I forget exactly which stat is the one that most strongly influences rumors ... but often where you get one strong stat, you get others strong as well

(sorry, don't have time to search for it) I think I recall reading that permanent planet damage can occur during certain rumors, perhaps ONLY certain rumors. I think it was the drought rumor and/or the 'stripped of everything' rumor. Also thought this was primarily for explore depletion as game difficulty increases with time but harvest depletion isn't AS fragile or increasingly difficult with time.

If you keep exploring one planet constantly, even when it isn't yielding any reasonable reward, there is a strong likelihood that the planet will become permanently barren. That is, it will never provide a massive payoff again in that game. It's important that you Explore/Harvest only a few times (maybe up to 4-5 times) before going to other planets. THat means, constantly exploring the Javat Mining Wilderness (Tucanaetta Steppes), you'll be killing off its ability to provide you with stuff in the future. There are a few explorer threads in the forum history where we highlight a number of good planets to explore

When I compare ships, I notice stats for "red" and "green". What are those? What do those mean? And how are they significant to ship performance?
