Is there something magical you have to do to keep your Wanted Criminal status? On each of my attempts I've went in with Wanted Criminal status on two groups by 67AE about a dozen times so far and while I did make the mistake of buying a new ship once (it was only one of the multiple tries) this last time was the straw that broke the camel's back... At least for the night. By 65AE I was at -179 with SSC and -128 SR. I spent the 22yrs roving back and forth between their zones destroying their ships stopping only by DV to repair my ship when needed and I still managed to lose one of the flags somehow and not get the award. Any idea what I could be overlooking here? Go back and forth blockading the planet perhaps? It absolutely baffles me that there are people posting in here wanting to know how to get rid of the flag when I can't keep it to save me life. - Version is 3.8.7 (downloaded yesterday?)
- The last run was done as CJ but several others have been done as either Cadar or DV.
- I only made the mistake of buying a new ship the first time but kept the same ship throughout all the other attempts
- I've tried it as captain, explorer, smuggler, zealot (most recently), and star trader.
- Doesn't seem to make any difference if I go into the cycle with them around 28-50 or 100+.
- Have tried working against the conflicts to always lower faction (exploring and trading), surveillance, and slaughtering without mercy. Even found an alien one run. And every single time it seems to just completely forget I'm a wanted criminal.
Any advice or guidance would be appreciated. I'm about ready to scrap the effort and just go finish the 151+ to Syndi's and move on to the next difficulty level. I guess on the plus side the Indy's were going out of their way to attack to make it interesting.

This is an interesting thread for me. Wanted Status is intentionally cleared, but not to annoy players going for rewards.
The design goal of that being a reward for certain types of actions. Nearly dying [Escape Pod/1 Hull Escapes] clears the flag, as does buying / changing ships.
I can certainly go into the code and make an exhaustive list. I may have already done this as part of the work for the new manual file. I will check.
I'd love to hear any discussion or ideas around this.
On a side note -- wasn't killing another ship enough to earn the wanted flag again?

I got a wanted flag for being -30 odd in one faction, and a wanted flag at -90 in another faction. Each case, it required me to actually blow one of their ships out of the skies (merely blockading didn't cut the muster).
In saying that, I got my first wanted status with Javat at 403.43AE, and my second wanted status with De Valtos at 404.10AE. At 411.23AE, I was granted the award in the hall of records and immediately got myself out of wanted status by selling the 100 Artifacts I was carting around with a trade-allied faction.
That's a darn site less than the 22 years required for the award ... Karma came and bit me on the arse though when I accidentally acknowledged/surrendered to a Thulun ship and got summarily executed. I didn't realise Thulun bounty hunters had the right to execute me! ...

I came closest doing successful surveillance. Oddly enough that seems to keep them pissed off at me much more than blowing up ships did. I earned new flags with ease either way though but it didn't prevent the prior one from clearing every so often. The two factions I targetted the most frequently due to proximity were Thulun and Cadar and I started wondering on my last few attempts whether it was an issue of flying from like a rough quadrant to another. I'm wasn't sure if you could get a flag from each faction or not so I picked one Syndi and one Clan. I also went out of my way to avoid anything that might increase my rep with either party (Independent quests that might be turncoat... Trading... Alliances.) afraid it was the reason the flag would get reset.
That said, I was trying to follow the 67.1 to 79.1 (IIRC?) years to get it per the wording of the award. If I don't need to have it between those years specifically I'll go back to one of my other games and barrage it at length.
On an unrelated note before I forget (and I'll look for the proper thread to add this to when I'm not trying to do it on my phone) my boss was able to replicate the multiple officer thing. It was the Political officer specifically. He flew in, picked her up. Left the town. Went back to rumors and found the rumor still there and went back to find another. Let him sign her instantly no problem. He was flying DeValtos/Challenging IIRC but I'll ask him next time I see him.

Oh and to abridge the above to fit your question...
Yes, killing ships did reflag me when I was unflagged. They just didn't seem to prolong my flag.
The -179 and -128 one above was where I started before I went and hit them for a flag (I violated their embargos to start). I then went to do surveillance for ship repair money and killed the ships that attacked me (I think I did run once? Needed repairs.) but still never managed to keep my flag long enough to get the award.
I took a short breather from it for the time being and am working on the perfect contract (50) and the Syndi +151 to all awards but I don't lack too terribly much on finishing them and will be focusing on that one again.
...yes. I know I'm really REALLY bad at abridging things.

i am having difficulty with the dark nemesis award as well. for the 22 years does it have to be from 67.1 to 79.1? and does it have to be one syndicate and one clan or could it be two syndicates or two clans?
love the game, thanks for the support.
btw not sure if the was a better place for this post... went through a few threads and this was the best thing ive found.

Yeah, pretty sure you need two separate warrants - one from the Syndicates, and one from the Clans - which means you'll need two Clans and two Syndicates to be reasonably upset with you. It can get a little brutal out there with only one friendly House and Syndicate apiece. Other sources I found suggest that "reasonably upset" means Reputation<=-20.

To play it safe, I made sure I got two factions (one Syndicate, one House) down to -35 or lower, and then blew up a ship from each of those factions.
After that, I just killed time and focused on things that didn't make those factions happier with me (ie, avoided doing anything during trade alliances, or killing ships that would make them like me more).
If you've got a decent enough ship, blockading a neutral planet is a nice past-time to kill time. I really wouldn't recommend flying through their airspace if you ever plan on trading with them again after you get your award. It's all too easy to end up in a downward RP spiral and before you know it, your RP is -1000 with a particular faction. I have to say that trying to get back into positive RP from there is painful to say the least.

Hi all! First post in forum Question: is it something wrong with the dark nemesis award? I try to get it in a lot of different ways and I NEVER get it... Last game I picked a spy from Richards Syndicate get 2 wanted flags an hated criminal status with thuhun, cadar and jabat. It was around 63 ae. I maintained the hated criminal status (between -31 and -40) and the flags till 80 ae and..... surprise didn't get the award... I don't really know what the hell can I do to get it......

May I inquire as to the difficulty you are playing at? It's not impossible that it may not be high enough to get the award.

Hrmm, odd, that's the right difficulty level to be sure.
Are you by chance forgetting to go to the Palace and record it in the Hall of Records? Until you do that no award is registered. (and take my word on this, you feel mightily stupid if you die after earning an award and forgetting to record it, personal experience speaking)
If it's not difficulty or forgetting to record it I'm not sure what it is.
