It's taking me so long to try to capture a planet that I'm 17 years into game time and 14 million saved in the treasury, +5k per turn.
My next wave will contain 20 invasion ships and might just be enough.
I want to see a video of someone capturing a planet intact after the (1.1.21) update, with details of the exact ships, and how many, and upgrades used.

I'll see if I can squeeze some video making into the schedule, but it's already at 120% full.
I'd honestly rather spend the time revising the PI system and let someone else post a video.
I released the new Achievements system only a few hours ago and I already see almost 20 people have earned the "Capture Quality 8+ Planet" trophy.
This thread makes it clear (if it wasn't already!) that we have a lot of work to do on PI. I'm hoping to make that, and the new Empire Event system, central to v1.2.x series of releases.

Indeed. This is precisely why I was concerned about the refueling issue. I can live without refueling cruisers, but the PI is a biggy for me.
I use 8 transports at a time to capture intact planets. If they run out of fuel and there is no other way to gas 'em up, I have to park them around a nearby planet. A fleet of 8 transports takes up a LOT of parking space, leaving precious little room for escort vehicles and so forth around them.
Nor do I want to spend many game turns doing nothing but press "end turn" while waiting for transports to refuel. I could do that with other ships, because I could have some ships refueling while other ships fight, but 8 transports have to be all gassed up at once. And while I'm waiting, potentially the xenos could be colonizing more worlds to make up for the one I just took from them.
Nonetheless, I am convinced ST 4X is a great game, and with the work you're putting in it will become still better!
ETA: DO invasion ships get better? There is no indication of crew skill improvement on the GUI, but I notice that frequently they have a lot of trouble with the first planet, but after about the third they start knocking down the alien population quite quickly.
Respectfully,
Brian P.

Nailed an invasion at last! The update to 1.2.3 made the odds of invasion success slightly higher I think.
I went in with 8 upgraded invasion ships, 2 refuel carriers and 12 heavy (upgraded) fighters fending off the Xeno. I had 14 other transport ships in reserve but they were not needed in the end.
Constant scout by all ships reduced population by between 3 and 7 per turn and I immediately put in a new colony. Victory! (or part 1 at least)
