Confused by the Tree? Use the other options in the Technology screens to automatically filter out what is and is not available.
We've gotten hundreds and hundreds of e-mails about the game ... and not one of them has been about issues using the Technology tree.
We'll put reviewing it on the list, but we cannot fool ourselves into acting like we have unlimited resources ;p
Only two people, one day at a time, hoping and wishing people keep buying our games. The glorious life of an indy game dev.

I was just thinking of a way to help mirk123 If it's just to complicated and not a problem...drop it

Just a matter of priorities. I suspect sometime in the next year fallen will replace many of the first generation graphics in ST 4X. We have to prioritize what will sell the most copies of the game and satisfy the largest number of paying players.

OK, everyone. I feel compelled to point out that I didn't mean to make such a big deal about the technology tree, etc. This was due to a confusion on my part not a game flaw and I got exactly the help I needed so I'm good to go. I also feel compelled to point that I'm color blind - though not terribly so. I seem to detect a difference of some kind between the icons for researched vs unresearched technology on the tree, but it's difficult for me to see. Are researched technologies lit up in some way? Is it my imagination. It is this that I described as two shades of gray but which may not be at all.
By the way, I have the same difficulty with the anomalies - trying to discern which are "lit up" and which have yet to be explored.
But from my point of view these are very minor issues, some of the challenge of small screen games, and not any kind of improvement priority.
At the same time I am very grateful for the response, thoughtfulness and help that is availabe in this community. I"m sure I'll need it again.

The best visual indicator, and one that should work for all sight modes, is the Lock icon in the lower right hand.
We are working on fixing issues in the game for folks with color blindness. For example, the next release will add shapes to the main map to make discerning Red vs. Green sectors possible on something other than pure color.

Cory, geez you guys keep raising yourselves up in my esteem. The idea that you've got us colorblind folk in mind in design upgrades is much appreciated. I can't in fact tell the difference in the red vs green sectors. Thank you!

I didn't find anything that seemed to fit your description.

I think it really improves the map regardless of colors, as the different zones are much easier to spot now, especially when zoomed out.
