I noticed an oddity regarding the stats for the basic colony ship design (the one that appears in the "New Ship" menu after completing Starship Construction 1 research). In both the "Select New Ship" screen and the "Ship Design List" screens, the fuel for Colony Ship is shown as 34. However when I actually construct the colony ship and then look at the detailed view for the newly constructed ship, it shows it has a water-fuel capacity of 138. Bug? Or some hidden stat modifier that takes effect after construction of the ship?
Also, the ship design screen for the Colony Ship shows a Refuel stat value of 5, and this is also shown in the Colony Ship when it is constructed. However if I go in and "edit" the Colony Ship design, on the final screen of the design editing (where you can name and save the design) it shows the refuel stat value as 1. A value of 1 makes more sense since then the ship stats for it add up to 28 (which is the allotted number of ship stat points), so I'm not sure why it magically jumps up to 5 once you leave the design edit screen and build the ship.
Related to both of the above anomalies, I tried to copy the Colony Ship by making my own new transport design, and even though I can seem to copy all the parts exactly, the fuel still ends up showing as 34 (instead of the Colony Ship's 138) and the refuel stat shows as 1 (instead of 5). These are values I expect, so is there a bug with the default Colony Ship design? Or perhaps do the default ship designs have some extra/hidden stats that make them a bit better in some ways than a similar ship you design yourself?
Note: I was testing this on the tutorial map using the Syndicate factions and an easy AI. The game I tested this with was started today using the latest ST:4X version 1.3.1.
