I tried one of the new maps on Impossible, the 20 systems one, I found that if the Xeno spawns in the corner, they only have five planets to colonize and don't seem to venture forth. As it is surrounded to the south-east by asteroids, and then my empire, I just has the Templar Defenders block the choke points and did not see any of their Colony Ships venture out. Given that they only had 5 planets, I rushed invasion, built a bunch of bombers and bombed them to oblivion by 3.43AE. Is it sort of... intended? For the asteroid fields to create impenetrable barriers and choke points? And is there coding for the AI to not send Colony Ships out when we're around? Or is it the distance? They started with three systems and quickly took the two nearby. The colonizable systems are a bit far away. Here's an image to illustrate what I mean:

Playing that same map- I only have one planet that I haven't colonized yet. Which alien are you up against?

I played that 32x64 with 31 worlds. Similar deal, xeno stuck on the top. You have huge advantage with a quadruple stars system in the middle, especially if you put 4 Thulun systems there. You have a fleet base that can pump ships out like you won't believe.
I played that in Hard difficulty. Economy took 5+ years to get going good but game was done by year 7, 1 small DMZ invasion follow by a huge one to capture couple of systems. I even capture the system next to Red Zorba capital and used it for fuel base. If quadruple star systems not in my control or occupy by non Thuluns; it will be a hard fight.

In those cases the Xeno AI is basing it off aggression levels and distance.
I did a lot of work to update the AI to adapt to asteroids and barrier walls.
You should see them using them (sometimes nasty) on several maps.
I will make sure that those maps are marked as "easy" in the next update.
Many people on e-mail have asked for "small, simple maps" so I added two to Elite.
