I think this would be pretty cool, because at the moment I really hate leaving a talent hanging and feel like the "stock" talents are privileged because they are easier to get to higher levels than the other talents. However, this stifles creativity in my team builds. Perhaps this could be unlockable or something that is available on start up or one time only at the forgotten way station. I think unlockable would be good because newer players should probably start with the stock stuff until they get the feel for how things work together.

This is a really common and expected feature in RPG. I would encourage the devs to leave it, I doubt very many players would use it.
Plus I think the more balanced aspects of the game they leave in place the better the ladders will be when they are released.

contributor - this one won't be changing until we get to respec later in the game.

@fourth - By making the ladders based on the entire character lifetime and setting an appropriate cost for a respec (one that increases based on how quickly you use it *and* decreases the longer you don't use it again, which hurts quick swapping respecs for different zones and helps respecs to try different builds without having to slog, slog, slog an entire new party), it shouldn't change ladder rankings unless there is a hole in the system to be exploited.

algesan - agreed. We've already got the plan on how to balance a respec cost into your ladder position.
