I've implemented everything people have asked for with the starting ships.
I'm happy to consider more suggestions!

I like unlocking things to a point. An unlock all option would b cool but should b extra dam hard to earn. What i dont like is captain unlocks stuff n dies, game resets to 0 point with unlocks available, still feel capt specific unlocks would b cool. Just my two cents worth.

They are more powerful now than they were before. All I was trying to say is that if you think they should be improved, I'm very open to using stats and adjustments from the board. The current stats on the starting ships were mostly provided by forum members ... startradersrpg.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=rules&thread=561&page=1We could revisit at any time...

personally I like the starting ships. There are a few that are eeeh but most of them provide unique ship choices that are good depending on what you started with.
Personally, I prefer the picky beggar for almost ALL of my starts. (good cargo + agility)

I enjoy unlocking & awards--it provides a sense of accomplishment. Perhaps an alternate compromise on this issue would be to have an unlock switch... which is unlocked after achieving a certain captain level. That way everyone who plays has to experience the game the way the developers intended before giving them the freedom to play how they would like.
If an unlock switch is available right from the begining, new players may not appreciate--or even get to experience a lot of the challenge that contributes to this games appeal.

I can't see how any of the alternative starting ships differ from the VV sufficiently to justify the work needed to unlock them. I agree. Either the requirements be easier, or the ships buffed. It makes a HUGE difference on higher difficulty levels. I only play on impossible, and the fuel + cargo features of the Aperio Caliga make it far superior to the VV, which just runs out of fuel constantly.

"game resets to 0 point with unlocks available" Not that I am aware. What do you mean? Captain alfonso plays for 100 years on crazy, unlocks turn of the century and water fuel tank then dies. Next new game the player starts on the same date all games start at with the same ship, crew, mission, and location, excepting for all modificafions made in character setup. But new captain Bertran can now purchase w-f tank thanks to Alfonso. Bertran didnt earn it, but he capitalizes on the gains of someone who career is hypothetically happening on the same time line... Ya follow?

Oh I understand what you are saying. That isn't possible in the current data storage system.

I would like an unlock code. Game isn't fun on the harder difficulties for me.... and I can't get ancient engines unless I go kick ass in way more difficult settings. irritating.

I am very sorry that you consider the game's Award and Unlock system irritating. It was not intended to irritate anyone.
As a counterpoint, the "Ancient Engines" upgrade's bonuses should not be necessary outside of the higher difficulties. Because the enemy Captains will be so low level, they'll have very poor Pilot skills and should be easily outmatched with or without the upgrade.
We are working on an unlock code solution that will encourage player communication and a "trade" of unlock codes.
Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

The different starting ships used to be all similar but now the spread is really great.
The only gripe I have with the awards system is how it is displayed, it gets overcrowded with so many completions. Could you consider 1) colour coding for first comple award at required level to unlock. More for new people who don't realise they did the award on wrong level, and also for older players to remember the captain that actually did the job. If you wanted to be flash could colour code differently for ships, officers, upgrades, future ... 2) Colour codes or a tag on the "all awards" screen which ones are done so you can tick em off one by one. 3) group the same awards together, under one main heading, list the captains and levels and dates when it was reobtained 4) could do a filter/sort system instead of all above but seems more complicated 5) Could the unlocks/awards link to the description of what it is for things like officers and upgrades and starting ships where there is a description already in the game?

I think there are about 50 items in the spreadsheet of to do items about the awards page.
I think most of those are already posted on another thread or are already in the spreadsheet in some form or another.
Just because they have not been coded does not mean they're not on the list. Unfortunately the list is several thousand lines long at this time. As we are able we will work to improve the Awards list.
