Would it be possible to write an ai script for archers to shoot and scoot. Plink the heros then use a movement point to retreat to frustrate the melee characters?

Yes, but we have not turned this on for any enemies yet.

Maybe Difficulty restrict like enemy AI in star-traders and add it to everything after the dungeon escape...cause those idiots are wearing red-shirts...so they're asking for it.

We made the design choice to scale difficulty by monster level and gold rewards.
AI behaviors are fixed and cannot change based on difficulties. Just a very different engine than ST.

Ah I see. Are AI behaviors fixed by class of mob or by individual mob?

Ah I see. Are AI behaviors fixed by class of mob or by individual mob? Individual mobs. Like a Forged Spider and a Spider Pest have a different AI class. Individual monster instances all share a common planning routine.

Yes, but we have not turned this on for any enemies yet. I beg you please have mercy, the wolves are driving me insane. I am also concerned about the impact it could have on AoE spells and curses no matter how big the clouds are. It takes a heap of talent points to get one.

For me personally, good AI in a game really stands out and it's something I always look out for. The first Halo game way back in 2002 really impressed me. I remember picking off a group of Grunts from a distance with headshots from my Magnum until there was an Elite and me left. It was pummeling the crap out of me with it's plasma rifle, so I leaped from my vantage point to behind a rock below. A plasma grenade hit the ground hissing by the side of me, so I abandoned my position and ran toward a nearby tree. The Elite and I circled each other, both of us using it as cover. When I goosed it and managed to drop it's shield, it literally dived behind the tree again. As I rounded the trunk it would deliberately move itself further around so it was out of my line of sight until its shield had recharged, at which point it rushed me, meleed my shield off, then backed away unloading it's Plasma Rifle into me. Nobody does shooter AI like Bungie. In Halo 3 (2007), you get these big gorilla-style enemies called Brutes. They patrol with Jackals and Grunts. As you fight them, they all move around and take cover. The Jackals will leap to high vantage points to pick you off with precision weapons, but the Grunts aren't that smart, and they'll saunter around the corner right into your fire; they do obey orders though. If you're hunkered down behind some cover and the Brute can't hit you, you'll often hear one shout something like "Flush him out!" right before the remaining Grunts hurl a load of Plasma Grenades at you.
If you take out the Grunts first, the Brute will sometimes back off and try to fall back, possibly into another group of enemies, or he'll sometimes scream and run at you trying to physically beat the crap out of you.
If you manage to take down the Brute, the Grunts will no longer have a leader coordinating them, and they'll just go beserk. Some will drop their pistol and literally run away, some will remain fighting if near a jackal or other support, and some will throw down their weapon, pull out two Plasma grenades, hold them out infront of them and just run into you, killing you and themselves.
The whole thing, from Halo to Halo: Reach, feels organic and natural. It's genuinely clever, and feels really fluid, like you're actually fighting real enemies that think for themselves.
Unfortunately, 343i couldn't manage that same level of awesomeness in Halo 4. They still do those things, the suicide Grunts and that, but it feels really staged. It just doesn't have that same fluidity. It feels like 'If I do this, then this or this will happen'. It's that organically built AI X-factor that the Bungie Halo games have that Halo 4 does not.
Here's hoping Bungie can do just as well with Destiny.
Having AI behaviour tied to difficulty level is not something I like, as I like to be impressed by AI behaviour whatever difficulty I choose to play on. I'm much more of a fan of the classic 'higher difficulty equals less damage done, more damage received, more HP for enemies' technique, so that even people who can't handle the harder levels get to experience awesome AI.

So, if we drop the Giant Rat we can get the NPCs to act like the moron level intelligence critters they are instead of having them act like modern trained infantry as the Giant Rat squeals: "SPREAD OUT, ONE GRENADE COULD GET YOU ALL!"

He means have the giant rat act as a commander unit. Still have no idea, it was a very confusing post. Goes back and forth between "moron level intelligence" and "modern trained infantry" and I have no clue, at all, what the actual message / suggestion / complaint of the post is. I'm not smart at all and I cannot read minds. Maybe he'll come back and explain the post, maybe it will just stay a mystery.

Cory Trese, I'm pretty sure he's saying that, in a fight with a group of enemies, can we see a drop in coordination and intelligent decision making in the group if we take out a group's 'leader' character before killing the rest of them - referencing my remarks about the outstanding Halo AI above

That would be awesome, but I don't think the ROUS have any sort of mental capacities whatsoever. This would need to be the Shamans or the Veterans. Squad tactics with commander units would be so boss though!
