Wishlist for Magic user: 1-handed Staves (call them Wands?).
Allows Cleric to have a shield and Staff. Gives her defense benefits of a shield with some magic bonus of a staff.
Allows Wizard to dual wield staves. Could open the door to some 1-handed staves that deal great melee damage with some bonus to magic. Call them War Wands, Malice Wands. Wizard would still be weakest in melee but might be an option worth exploring?
Allows Warrior and Paladin to dual wield a 1-H sword/hammer/spear with a 1-handed staff. Swaps parry bonus of a shield for a magic bonus of a staff?

First: I, VDX, posted as Ratkin Bait yesterday as I forgot my password but wanted to share the idea before I forgot it. Pardon any confusion. Seriously need a brain upgrade.
The idea of the 1-hand magic staff was discussed months and months ago but the general idea at the time was that a staff needed to be 2-handed to get a high enough bonus to make it worthwhile, but the game has changed a lot with updates and I think there's some room to explore that option now.
There are some melee mages out there that a War Wand or Combat Scepter would make a nice addition. (The first Baron could drop one as a reward?) However, the benefit I see for my current parties is with the Cleric. I use my Cleric as a flank guard with healing abilities. With a 1-H wand/etc, she could still have a shield, still get the melee defense bonus from upping Staves skill but rather but get some magic assistance in lieu of a hammer that tends to be the weakest offense of the party anyways. For clarity, as a Flank Guard, she doesn't really need to deal damage so much as to be able to absorb it to protect my Wizard and Thief. With a hammer, the Cleric can do some damage as a clean up crew but compared to Level 10 Firebolt, Level 10 Aimed Shot and mid-level Crushing blows of a 2-H weapon, the Cleric's attack rarely makes a difference in a round.
Obviously, style of play would adjust the impact of a 1-H Staff.
BTW, the trading post side quest is a nice add. However, I'm a little worried about all the side quests bumping my levels too high before I enter the Cult Temple. That temple was hard enough my first play troughs. It could be a challenge with everything being a few level higher....
