Hi all, Any time I come across the Kranng ship that looks like a stag beetle, I'm toast. Just seeing it as an encounter means I know I'm doomed as I can't outrun, outgun orboard it with any luck. I predomimantly play as non-combative captains and only on Challenging difficulty. Any tips on how to survive these nasties please??

Right subcategory, wrong game. You want the Star Traders subforum. This is the Heroes of Steel one.

I'm sure we can still provide an answer I believe prioritizing Pilot and Stealth are the way to go, as well as having the fastest ship money can buy. Also not carrying large amounts of artifacts, as these attract aliens to your ship, particularly in red areas.

Avoid large stashes of artifacts in the hold will reduce the chance of finding xeno ships.
High stealth will avoid the chance of running into them at all.
Install an Escape Shuttle and Dry Dock backup ships -- this should be priority 1 for a non-combat captain.
Fly ships with Speed of High, and raise stealth. Start a battle again the xeno with
1. Torpedo 2. Retreat
Every time you get out to Long Range, repeat that cycle. This gives you the best chance to avoid.

Hello gents, thanks for your replies and advice taken onboard! I've downloaded H.o.S but not given it the time it deserves yet, still happy with ST! I'm not getting on very well with that tappatalk forum app thing; seems to make my forum navigation worse than doing it browser based. Hence this post as case in point lol. Thanks again, admins feel free to delete this thread now

Thanks again, admins feel free to delete this thread now I'm three months away from my 4th year playing ST ... still playing it regularly now! Aliens have been killing off more captains than most other encounters combined. It would be fantastic if there was some telemetry added to ST2 where the game reported back cause of death to the TB's. I'd love to see just HOW lethal the Aliens are. Of course, I wouldn't want them nerfed in any way - you have got to dread the Alien after all! Escape Shuttle critical - even with a combat-ready captain. Carry lubricant too ... and really good running shoes

Haha, slayernz , who needs an escape shuttle? When locked in combat with the scourge of the stars, only one Captain will leave alive.

dallas there is always the other option. Board the ba$t**ds. Have your strength up. Have the weapon cabinet. There are some other useful upgrades, try to kill some of their crew before you board. Take out their captain. Toast in nearest spice hall. Oh yeah.

dallas there is always the other option. Board the ba$t**ds. Have your strength up. Have the weapon cabinet. There are some other useful upgrades, try to kill some of their crew before you board. Take out their captain. Toast in nearest spice hall. Oh yeah. I typically go with this. The nice thing about using boarding rather than a gun bunny build on a more peaceful captain is that you don't have to invest but so much in it. A Warrior of 15 or 20 will likely serve as a most nasty surprise for any Independent Pirate or Alien who does manage to catch up with you, and whatever crew you lose in the process you can buy back with the salvage and loot of the idiot ship that wouldn't take no for an answer in the first place. The other nice thing about boarding for non a fighting captains is that it takes an awful lot of Warrior pts to increase your level, so you seriously won't have to worry about staying so far ahead of the curve while balancing other stats and leveling. Tactics and Stealth, (especially stealth, which makes making a torpedo captain difficult) for example will level you VERY quickly, and require constant investment. Warrior only needs maybe 20pts in it on Demanding to make Aliens regret their life decisions. I have a long-living smuggler on my Kindle Fire with a Warrior of maybe 20-25 at level 30 with everything else in Pilot and Negotiation (and a few in Tactics if I remember right) and he really doesn't have issues at all. Actually, he's filthy rich and buying/stashing fast/quick ships all over the galaxy the way athletes collect Rolls-Royces and Ferraris. He's waiting to find slayernz Cruisers and whatnot to send him pics of it.

I looked at all of my captains on roster. The captain was with the highest Warrior score is a level 30 Pirate ... and he has 2 points allocated to Warrior. Maybe I'll boost him some and see what happens

Further question then- does having weapons in your hold confer a combat advantage when boarding ships? That never occurred to me before?

ST has gotta be one of the most gritty, insane rpgs of all time. slayernz is about to become self-actualized. Xeno killer...
