kyreastronghammer, I actually agree with a lot of what you said there. I will come back in and write a more thorough reply when I get some time (at work today ) but wanted to pipe in and say that I totally 100% agree with your thoughts on Fyona. I love the fact that she's a strong, not overly sexualized female character in the game. She's a front-line tank that can bash some heads and it's really refreshing. I also like your suggestion that we have some kind of.... well I hesitate to say "ugly" but... ugly female character. I would definitely like to see a Big Bertha styled knight or reeve or a female guard that plays a particularly pivotal role in some part of the game be.... plain. Not saying those characters aren't there but adding more "normal" women is always good. As a small aside, I wanted to find a non-sexualized military officer style art piece for use as "Fleet Admiral Ghans" in my current 4X let's play and had to give up after searching fruitlessly for an hour. Nothing but highly sexualized boob-armor wearing characters out there. It was a little depressing

Thanks. I feel heard. The game is great and I don't want to sound like I'm picking on HoS because the game is way ahead of what's out there.
I want to expand what I said about Balgair. I like Balgair. He's funny, honest (in a shady kind of way) and has a bit of depth to him. He's also older, half-bald and looks like he's more comfortable with a cigar and shot of whisky than gym cloths. As reality goes, he's not bad looking. It's just compared to the fantasy line up around him, he's no movie star. He's also my favorite NPC and I hope there's more of him in EP3. I also get the feeling the while Vras and Kincaid are eye candy for the ladies, I'm not sure Vras would know how to do anything than "CHARGE THEM" which is not the best way to a laddy's.... cough.. heart. Kincaid is too much a pretty boy for me. I keep waiting for him to put on skinny jeans and get a hand bag with a bird on it. But, Balgair? I think that City Rat has a cat in every inn. He seems to know his way around.. cough.. alleys. He's charisma stems from his development as a character rather than being mere eye-candy.
So I guess what I am asking for is a female NPC that is equally appealing as a person as Balgair and normal looking. Lady Storm is a confident business woman that is filled out well. She's also pretty easy on the eyes. Somehow I doubt she has too much trouble getting the Knight to listen to her woes. Same with the other female NPCs. They all tend to be rather attractive.
To be fair, the Magus with his fair skin, strong jaw and non-wizardly build likely does't need magic to win a round of spin the bottle.
I know it can be tough to balance fantasy with caution of gender stereotyping. I am glad HoS is aware of that balance.
In a lighter mood, I've always wondered why all my guy friends who are "self-taught artists" can draw really hot women with massive chests very well but need training to draw a-cup women that pass for real. I keep picturing teenagers drawing big boobs for hours a day.

Where's Kincaid and Fyona? Did they sneak off together or something?

kyreastronghammer - I am sure Balgair ( John Robinson) will be very proud of what you have to say about his character! The NPC is built on his ideas and his self-portrait

Do you know where the real Balgair lives? It would be awesome to get him to sign a photo of Balgair for me.
Nvmd-I sent him a message -_-

kyreastronghammerLady Strong Hammer Balgair was last seen hurrying down the hallway towards his study. I could hear snippets of "Brilliant Woman", "A gift from the Gods", "Beautiful soul envy of all Mystics" . He has slammed and bolted the door busily writing a missive worthy of Lady Strong Hammer's magnificent kindness. This must be serious he has refused to come out for food and even more worrisome his evening pitcher of strong spirits remains untouched. I'm sure you will be hearing from him soon.

I keep picturing teenagers drawing big boobs for hours a day. Please don't ever feel hesitant to share your thoughts. As slayernz pointed out, Cory and fallen really do make a concerted effort to listen to every little thing their fans say. As such, the games are always, always improving. You have a lot of valid points, and I really applaud you for them. I, for one, really like your suggestion. Having err... non-standard characters would be fun and interesting. As others have said, this is a bit of fantasy and we all like to look nice. That said, I really think fallen did a great job on most of his characters. I am absolutely horrible at art and couldn't hope to match his skill and, as he's pointed out, he's constantly improving. Not sure if you've been playing the TB games that long, but longer time players can testify that he has made amazing improvements in a comparatively small time. Like I said before, having a strong homely female character would be cool. I am one of the people lucky enough to have a chance to create an NPC in ST2 (I also go one in HoS, just like Balgair ) and have been toying around with ideas. I was actually considering from the very beginning to have a strong, non-standard female character be my recruitable officer. Having her do some typically "male" task, like a boarding officer would actually be a lot of fun. I'm not saying that fallen and Cory haven't done this, if you play ST at all you'll see that some of the officers hold non-gendered positions. One that pops to mind is the mechanic, she's female. Equality is a good thing, and the TB are fighting the good fight. I've been lucky enough to have a chance to work with them on a couple of occasions and they seem very, very well thought out and aware of life in general. Really, I'm sure they get it all the time, but they are definitely the kinds of guys that I'd love to have a beer with. Who knows, if you can come up with some good idea in time for the next kickstarter you might even be able to design your own NPC in the game. I know it's also a little late but... Welcome to the forums! Hope you stay around and have fun! Oh, and by the way, slayernz, I really like the second art piece. Thanks!

I'd like to thank xdesperado. Kept me from losing my hat. Thanks man. Average folks are always concerned with above average folks. It's quite natural. It's okay to be normal. It's not okay to hate beautiful people. Ugly doesn't sell. Try it and you'll see. TBG cannot be expected to change long standing world norms. They're very busy trying to give people a square deal in the sea of sharks. Props to fallen for trying to better himself. Bettering ourselves, that should be the focus.

On a side note, I doubt Vraes would honestly be doing any type of charging as when you charge, you die.
