Maybe make the retirement unlock a new era for your next character to start? Like if some big event happens and the game rules change dramatically?
I dont know is this possible to code,i hope it is.
Another idea in my mind would be that you will retire at your player base and start a new faction, and its the 'end' of the game and start of the X4/X5/whatever-name-it-has
game where you play as a faction.
And then the game would generate a special code that is carried to the faction games' memory and give you some special bonus!
And then you could choose from three options:continue like normal,exit, and start armageddon mode where the narvidians attack the quadrant and the survival is very hard.
