Ok now im confused about hiw the engines work. How does solar sails need something called void-engine? If they were just the normal engines, why would they consume waterfuel all the time?
And about the starsystems,i think that they are in a nebula, so they are very close to each other, and theres solar winds everywhere to speed the solar sails, so saying movement is slow too slow must be a lie. (and every turn will take a week so its not THAT fast)
P.S.i dont get a text named "water crystals", i get a text "ice"

Honestly I just made up a bunch of cool sounding stuff like five years ago while designing this sci-fi universe.
Unfortunately not all of it is backed by real world physics. Void Engines have been a common feature in a number of Trese Brother's sci-fi projects and they were used in ST RPG as well. Due to space-on-the-screen we changed it to "Engines"
I'm not sure what part is a "lie" really because I made it all up. It is ALL a lie if any of it is a lie.

What does AE mean exactly?
And i understand how hard it may be to make sci-fi games realistic. Not many games use solar sails they use "warp engines" which will warp the ship into "sub space" which doesnt brobably exist. And i think that when in many sci-fi movies when the ships go in "hyperspace" they accelerate from 'only 20.000mails/h to 3X light speed in five seconds. That should but them in over million g:s which should instantly crush the ship and its crew.
Star traders dont have that kind of stuff..so its more realistic. (i still know some funny thinks in ST like in real life void space is safer than 'foggy' space.(if that is what green and red areas mean because they would also mean some highly radiated waste-space))

While on the subject of terms, what does "AU" stand for? Because if it's the standard "astronomical unit" from physics (~9.3x107 miles), then the entire Elite map would fit well within the orbit of Neptune. ;D
On another note from this thread, regarding Cory's WWII reference, the Germans had many problems due to lack of oil (and rubber, iirc) and became a major factor in their defeat. Maintaining supply lines is one of the most important aspects of warfare and even played a part in some battles mentioned in the Bible.

@taat "AE" means "After event" it is used the same way "AD" or "BC" works.

AU stands for Absolute Unit. It is a ST RPG specific measure of space.
Previous we called it a VU (Void Unit) but this was said to be "hard to understand."
So, at the suggestion of a new player we changed it to AU. Not accurate (and sometimes people quote numbers, declare that it is "unscientific" or something less kind) but it does evoke the correct response in the player.
AU is a measure of distance. Most SCI-FI people/players realize that and it rings true.
AD was the previous measure of time (After Dispora) however, new players said that "AD" as confusing because the date was so small. So we changed it to "AE" which was less biblical and still an explainable acronym.
THANKS FOR PLAYING@

Ok now i understand.
And actually, the 'AE' and 'AU' are pretty easy to get confused of which is which.

AD and VU would not be confusing, yes, but they dont sound so good that AE and AU... I think... But i tend to say single letters with my native language so it may sound different in english.... But i can say them in english and they still sound better than AD and VU. VU especially.
