It would be great if you could target unoccupied squares with aoe spells for better targeting. There has been many times where I could have hit 5 or more enemies with a spell but could only hit 2 or 3 because of how they are positioned. I mean it makes sense that a mage would want to focus his fireball in a way to hit as many enemies as possible just as a soldier would toss a grenade that way. Could allow enemies to do that as well.
Could make it so you have to hold Ctrl or shift as you click, so that it doesn't interfere with movement. Also if this is already implemented in the game then sorry in advance, but I did try everything I could think of like holding shift or ctrl etc..

Sorry didn't see that other thread, and didn't see it mentioned in the LOOK HERE FIRST STICKY lol. All the same though I think that feature should be a given in this day in age as far as tactics games go, or maybe I'm just spoiled (sure not all turn-based strategy games have that feature but most do). All I am saying is give it some thought, its not like the game is 100% finished.
I just want to say that, I did just pick this game up and I am enjoying it. 2 people made this game and that is impressive. I have played some crappy indie games and this isn't one of them so props for that.

Definitely something we thought about -- I've played many games with the "cast spell on ground" rules and many without.
For Heroes, one of the central rules for AoE is "First Party Hitting" which states that the primary target of the spell must be hit or the remaining AoE targets are not hit.
We definitely could implement it, but I do not think it would have an overall positive impact on the game. The tension, especially in the later episodes, around maximizing targets with AoE spells is part of the game and shifts as the game advances to random movers, teleport monsters, magic resistant ones. Making any spells ground target takes away that tension.

Thanks for the welcome. Yea I am not past ep. 1 yet so I haven't quite run into the tention yet. Looking forward to that.
One other cosmetic suggestion to do with the same topic. Maybe make spells that are AOE highlight the area they effect. Simply because some skills jump from 1 target to X to 3x3 after leveling, with out mentioning such in the description.

The Talent table has an icon that shows the AoE range.
Displaying an overlay is on the list, not sure how/if it will work, but it is on the list.
