Are the Character talent tables still getting updated automatically? Can anyone change the character tables? Have the updates switched from auto to manual? The new format looks great, but is it accurate? Sample is from Commmander "Shrewd Dealings" still displays a 26 week cool down, instead of 18. The leveling table goes up to Rank(32) instead of Rank(40)

Depends on your playstyle and approach I guess. Some people have said these Contacts are extremely useful and live/die by them. Different styles require different things. I can see both sides of the story. Okey Dokey, You've always led in the right direction, while preserving the sense of wonder, and suspense. I've learned thoroughly from HoS just how right your decisions are. I'm back on the bridge, exploring the infinite field of stars. Thanks

Cory Trese , fallen I Started a New Template Priority A) Contacts = 8 Faen & Arbiter early storyline Is there a way of generating starting contacts that aren't from the same faction as Princess Aatean? Out of 8 starting contacts, 3 are enemies in the Faen story line. By the time I'm finished with the Arbiter these contacts will not be much use. If feels like I selected, Priority A) Contacts, to get 8 of them. But really only get 5 I can use. (image after 2 stops in Arbiter story, and already cannot buy an edict)

Checking Achievements while building a Template. Important Edit 8/9/20: I Want to make sure this is the first thing you see in this thread, Thanks daveal . Edit: Later, was informed wiki page is still manually updated You can unlock special ships, and contacts by completing these achievements. When you complete one it is always available for future games on any difficulty. The below list is what was available on 8/9/18. You should expect it to grow dramatically. I was building a brand new custom Template. I set contacts at priority A giving me 8 to start the game with. During contact selection. The Academy Doctor appeared on the list as locked. Wow! I sure want that contact. But I would have to exit all the way out before completing my template to find out which achievement will unlock the Academy Doctor. Not particularly elegant, but works for me. 1.) Start STF in Windowed mode. 2.) Open this forum thread in a new tab. Now you can switch back and forth while creating your new template. 3.) When finished, return to STF menu select options ==> Fullscreen and restart. More information about related topics: Unofficial Players guide

I'm glad the FAQ and unlock page are useful. I intentionally added them without front page links till I was sure the dev team would not disagree with my phrasing. Thanks for adding the links. daveal Great Job! Thanks for the excellent work. Big +1k

So many updates sure keeps up the excitement. Read the FAQ great job! Just what I would want to know on my first play. I don't see the faq on the Main STF wiki pageBecause the FAQ already covers the location of saved games. Maybe replacing "Save Game Locations" with "Helpful FAQ" ?

I think the loss of your entire crew and ship ... is a huge price to pay already. A bad Trait mutation is guaranteed I think. Love that. We don't want it to be unrecoverable, such as losing a point of Charisma forever. If it is too harsh, then we shouldn't add it to the game in the first place. 1.) Yep I strongly agree we shouldn't drop a point of Charisma. The paragraph marked " Brutal", should have left it out. I let myself get irritated about how many posts are trying to find ways to make the game more difficult on hard and above. 2.) Rep loss. Really so bad? I'm only talking about difficulty levels above normal. Originally introduced to prevent over reliance on " Skip off the Void talent". I frequently get negative rep whenever running from a fight. It doesn't matter if I'm flying a scout against a broadsword. In STF recovering reputation loss is routine. If you have a high rank within your Faction. Currently if you have earned ranks above a certain level. A few points of negative rep will cost you a military rank or trade license level. But really, it only takes a few missions, and some cash to bring you back. Your reputation should not remain unchanged as if the event never occurred. The Captain chose to leave his crew in a burning hulk, captured or killed. His previous command decisions led to this catastrophe. 3.) Trait mutations. As usual you are way ahead of me. Okey dokey, just a few carefree thoughts, not sitting in a corner holding my breath like a little brat. I gotta make the last escape pod now, before the crew finds out there's one left. (lol) Signed Devil's advocate

If you use an escape pod. Bail out, and save yourself. - There should be a negative rep penalty with all factions. You are branded a coward. - Double negative rep with home faction. This can cause loss of rank, and trade permit level. (Humiliation) - If you are a Military officer. For desertion under fire. You are court marshaled, and imprisoned for a period of time. - Trait mutation effects. One of the positive ones, that make you more battle ready. You are more determined to regain your lost honor. Maybe choose from one of these? Death Wish | Going out in a blaze of glory, -25% Death Save to survive lethal hit in any situation, +15% All Accuracy, +15% Crit | Fearless
| Never suffers a Morale Break in Crew Combat, regardless of how low Morale is
| Merciless
| Reveling in the death, gain Morale whenever destroying enemy ship but lose Morale whenever ending combat in Draw or Ransom
| Valiant
| +10% Parry, +10% Dodge
|
Want it brutal? Permadeath difficulty levels. - One point Charisma removed. Confidence in your leadership has been forever weakened. - Select 2 trait mutations from this list Battle Scarred | -2 Fortitude, +4 Wisdom, -2 Charisma, +20 Bleed Resist | Combat Nerves
| -10% All Accuracy, -10% Parry, -10% Dodge
| Crippled
| -4 Fortitude, -2 Strength, +3 Resilience
| Fatalistic
| Seeing death as inevitable in the end, -10% Death Save to Survive lethal hit in any situation
| Headstrong
| Resistant to new ideas, +3 Wisdom, +3 Resilience, 25% chance of not gaining XP
| Xenophobic
| Sickening dread paralyzes when encounter something alien, loss of 6 Morale when encountering xeno ship

John Robinson - sorry, that's an issue with the wiki not getting updated fast enough. When I was adding icons, I found that Shrewd Dealings was still on a 3 week cooldown when all other Talents that can discover Contact Traits were on a 26 week cool down. Having re-reviewed this, I have shortened them all to 18 weeks -- but they have to be a bit long because they only go on Cooldown IF you discover a Trait successfully. So, it slows down your pace of being able to do it with a single Commander, which I think is fair. Hope that helps! Excellent The commander still has the advantage of the trigger testing on accepting a mission vs some of the others. 18 weeks is perfect I'm very happy and agree the change maintains balance. Is it fix for next? For Captains that use card games: What is the cool down on something like the Spy's level(15) Rampant Theft? The crew have convinced the Captain, and he has agreed to come back out of the airlock, instead of pushing the big red button

Shrewd Dealings Talent. I built my Captain to ferret out contact hidden traits in the smallest amount of time. The Commander was the only one that can do this with a 3 week cooldown instead of 26 for all the others. You can't see the talent in-game description until you reach Commander(8). Took my Captain 13 levels to get it, ouch! I need to make a decision about starting a new team that doesn't pivot on the Commander's Shrewd Dealings talent.Commanders page wiki Displays 3 week cooldown. On-board the ship. My Captain's Shrewd Dealings displays a 26 week cooldown. Which one is working?

Glad you found it. Consider the prevalence of the use of the 'All' button, auto-fuel is far less important these days. Also, we will not be adding 'auto' for any other services. fallen Cory Trese So many beautifully crafted pieces of the UI. I had not noticed the little square in the right side top of the icon to open the fuel section and turn auto on. It might be artwork, it might be a live control. Young Frankenstein would have said "It's alive!". Yes the "All" button was a huge breakthrough. Keeps you informed but not complacent, just mashing buttons without thinking. A delicate artistic balance. I'll switch off the auto fuel and stay with the All button. It's really terrific getting to see how much everything is going to cost all on one pop-up panel. It's fun to explore. So many things have "hover over" now. I remember our first vid producers meeting. We all started asking about how this or that worked on the existing interface. Both of you were saying things like this is just a basic bare bones, we have allot of work to do, or something like that. Talk about the understatement of the decade! Great work, sprinting for the finish line. It is a new world. Thanks guys P.S. Last night in the wee hours, I watched a movie called "Serenity", how's that for timing.

Wait, how was the problem on your end? If you just reduced the scaling, that doesn't count! No problems leaving STF at 111% scale default. What was causing the problem? I was running my display at 1920 x 1200 which is higher than recommended. My external monitor can go way higher, but the laptop it's hooked up to can't. The windows 125% text scale isn't causing any problems. I changed it from 100% years ago, my eyes could never relax trying to read small font size. Although unrelated, just want to thank you again. That trick you taught me with CTRL + and minus while on Google is a life changer. I make allot fewer errors on my forum posts getting to enlarge the viewing text without font changes in the bbcode. (I think you run 110% for reading). Chicken little strikes again. This clip is from my windows settings as they look right now. (No STF conflict).
