I've got a group going through Ep. 1 and I'm about to fight the Shaman. I've noticed, though, that the chest loot I've been getting all through the three "Vermin" levels leading up to the Shaman has been totally crappy. As in, "I think I got this same spear during the escape from Red Hill level" crappy. I've already sold the majority of what I've picked up, so I can't give you a comprehensive list, but currently in my inventory I have a couple of Training Spears, a Club, a Hunter's Knife, a Quilted Sheathe, a pair of Ironclad Boots, a couple of Shaker's Bracers, and a ton of base-level healing pots (30-60 HP) and SP pots (40-80 SP). Besides that, I know I've gotten a ton of other base-level loot that I already sold. I have gotten literally no weapons or armor that even come close to what is available for sale in Oskahold and no accessories that are better than what I've picked up along the way clearing the farmholds and West Road.
Is something wrong with the loot table on those three levels after one of the recent updates or am I just having the absolutely crappiest luck with my loot rolls?

mrsarfa I've seen a lot of weird juju with loot before, like the one group that I built all around fire damage, that didn't find any +fire gear until near the end of episode 2 (except for an early staff). My current group is raking in the group healing potions like crazy. I have more than I will probably ever need, which is good, because until the very end of Redhill I've gotten almost no good armor or armor boosting gear. All that to say I think it's just weird juju and not an actual bug. I've definitely seen training equipment in the Ratkin Warren/Lair levels.

contributor - Thanks for the reply. I am finding a TON of +ranged accuracy gear with my all melee group. Talk about annoying. So I do know about the weird stuff that seems to happen with loot, but I just find it strange that I found a lot of decent equipment in the West Road/Farmhall maps and now absolutely nothing: the loot table doesn't seem to progress in step with the game.

No changes in loot code or data for some time.

fallen - Thanks for confirming. If it's not a bug, then, perhaps it can be a wish list request...? Is there really any reason to be giving out the same items from the escape from Red Hill once someone has made it almost to the Shaman? I understand and totally agree with the loot system (base items plus a chance for something better), but I'm wondering if the base level doesn't need to be made a bit better in the Vermin levels... Thanks!

I am also playing in the vermin lairs on hard and have even had a blue locked chest that was empty. Personally i like the loot setup and dont think it should really be changed.
A few things i have noticed however:
You can force a "retry" of the chest contents if you clear an area but dont open the chests, then sleep, then run around and loot everything. if you just get a bunch of junk you can force close the game on ios by double clicking home button and swiping the app to close it out. When you come back to the game you are back to when you slept but before you opened all the chests.
I dont like playing this way so have only done this this first time I discovered it on accident. The second go around i also got similar junk. That brings of the question of when the contents of chests are rolled for? Beginning of the game? (couldnt be..) Beginning of the level? (Possibly and probably still expliotable) Ever time you open a chest the game rolls for contents (most likely)
I might try this a few times on the secret room in the temple after oskahold, i got that awesome red armor the first go through and from what I've read that was dumb luck.
More questions about chests: Many games have a 'luck' attribute or a hidden variable based on 'knowledge' or 'wisdom' that slightly influences chest rolls.. I have tried opening chests with different members of my party and have got some really good loot using kjarten. With nothing to compare to I can not say one way or another.
Does the player or the player stats you use to open a chest in any way affect contents?
Suggestion: how awesome would it be if the color of text of an items name had to do with the rarity of the item... common junk in grey, uncommon in green, rares in blue.. Granted that convention is used else where in quite a few games however most ppl are familiar with it. Could definitely put your own spin on it. Some really rare loot could have a sparkle or a glow about it...

Whoa...I love the rarity identification idea.... Hope that's something that could be done without too much difficulty. Great idea!

riverjack - thanks for the information and the suggestions. We'll work on closing that bug! No player stat currently effects the opening of chest or loot dorps.

Played around with it some more, seems chests are rolled for loot when the dog bark sound happens not when you actually open it? The game also saves at this point as well. So there really is no expliot here except the illusion of reopening the same chest over and over... That is unless i got the exact same stuff out of this chest three times in a row (played with the chests behind the hidden wall before the shaman) This sound right?

riverjack - that is correct. That is the time that the chest is rolled, and the state is committed and saved at that time.

there really is no exploit here except the illusion of reopening the same chest over and over. Illusion exploits are still fun tho, right?

I think I'll add my concern, but I'm, too, getting a bunch of the same item over and over again. (Going through underforge right now.) It is as much as opening 3 chests in a row and receive same ring from all 3. Time and again.
