I was reading the latest Kickstarter release for ST2, particularly with regard to the motivation engine. Over time, game events and choices can alter a character's traits. Leadership skills, stubbornness, willpower, ect. The character can change depending on how you use them. And that spacers these days are essentially immortal (or close to it), it got me thinking to the Red Mars series of novels by Kim Stanley Robinson. In them, a kind of medically induced immortality/extended life is also found. And over time the affected characters find growing gaps in their memories, including skillsets and relationships that are seldom used. I've never really thought of that until now. Hell if you lived over 2 or 3 centuries, Who knows what we'd forget?

I've never read the series you are talking about but I am a huge dork for Sci-fi, especially space-operas. Would you recommend it for someone like me? The most recent kickstarter update has me so super, duper, ultra, MEGA excited for ST2. I know we still got a long time to wait but.... I CAN'T WAIT! As an aside, fallen, for those of us that are able to make NPCs, will we be able to set out some basic traits that will kind of define our NPCs personalities? If so, how detailed can we get with them? (As always, I will totally understand if you are too early to provide a detailed answer at this time)

The Red Mars/Green Mars/Blue Mars series is very much worth reading.

I wouldn't call it a 'space opera' per se. Some parts are a bit hard to follow, but I think I'd throw it in the same pile as the 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Clocks in at a total of around 3600 pages... 1,200,000 words. Go for it

Glad everyone is excited

I always thought that was one of the odd things about STRPG. I mean, you land on a planet, grab some poor saps who you send out to die as soon as possible exploring ancient ruins. And they never seemed to get paid!
Really looking forward to ST2 and TA2 (which i didn't even know was coming...)

Do we just never notice?

Deuterated water is certainly a commodity, but its rather hard to use as a system of coinage.
