Does anyone on the forum have any experience working with modding games on Steam? We've had a user post the first unofficial mod for Heroes on Steam, which replaces all the music with Baldur's Gate music. steamcommunity.com/app/291190/discussions/0/610574106420625192/Clearly time to learn more about this, and if there any experienced Steam modders on the forum, I'd appreciate chatting with you about your experience.

Zilch here, but as developers and business owners, I'm curious to hear your thoughts in homebrew modding like that. I've used modded games before- but only ones that have been made open-source like MechWarrior 3 and 4 and the MechCommander games.

dayan - we haven't build the games with extensive modding in mind -- it isn't a priority on our busy schedule at this time with our tiny team. What you'd be able to achieve is pretty limited, but there are still some fun possibilities. I'm interested to hear about other people's experience with modding on Steam, and the use of the Workshop vs. just posting stuff to the forum

Hello official Trese Brothers forum! Still gotta register to this board, sorry. I have no experience with Steam modding and their workshop. Basically I love Heroes of Steel so much that I couldnt resist creating that ambience mod for it. I'm not sure if the game needs a Workshop, that is basically more for games that include level creating and such things to my opinion.
What I came for is this, I am working on having the skillnames on all skillicons in the game. As my memory is bad I always forget what icon does what skill, so I have added some skillnames on the icons. Before I continue with adding skillnames on icons for partymembers I dont have in my party I wanne ask this...
I wanne continue with adding skillnames to all icons for all the possible party members in game and once it's finished post it on the steam forum as another mod for this game. The 'problem' is, I will have to include 8 edited .PNG files in the RAR file. The original artwork of these PNG files is ofcourse owned and copyrighted by Trese Brothers. I will surely understand if you wont give permission for doing this. As long as I have no permission or haven't heard from you I will not do this ofcourse. I totally respect your decision in this.
I told it more times on the steam forum (maybe too many now) but you created a great game with Heroes of Steel. Wish there were more games like that, CardaNL

CardaNL - thank you for your awesome support of the game. You have our permission to publish the Talent names mod with modified PNGs. However, one thing. We are going to be making a big change to the organization of those PNGs next release in order to reduce the application's size. So, if you want to make the mod, I think you'd be happier to wait until our next update (v3.2.13) and then do the work. The Talents are going to be moving around and there will be more PNGs to modify. The update should be out by the middle of next week hopefully. Other than this change, those PNGs are very rarely modified, so you won't have a lot of work as a mod owner Thank you again, you made my day with your Steam post.

And make an account for the forum so you can sling spells and torpedoes at the other members!

I'll be happy to wait then Thank you again for the kind words and permission to work on them. Maybe you can develop the skill icons for that update with the skillnames yourself? I think a lot of people will appreciate that. If not, I surely will give it a go. Have a great weekend, Carda

CdrPlatypus - through the creative rights given to our KickStarter backers, yes. It will not be a game designed and built with modding in mind. As with all of our other games, that would be great, but we have to prioritize to be successful.
