I think giving the new player a sense of the vast scope of the world is more important.
Fog might leave them guessing there are 6 more spots on the map, instead of 36.

I side with leaving it as is. I only needed to play the first dungeon and look at the map to get a feel for the longetivity of the game

The characters come from all over the World of Steel. They know the map. Hiding it would not make sense.

Sure they're from all over. But the underdeep is vast and the Baron at red hill could have taken their maps? Knowing where something is and how to get there are two different things, right?

The inability to control the darkness of areas already explored is frustrating... Running at max brightness and can barely see wall edges in brightly lit room. Can an option be added where previously explored areas are not quite so dark? I'm not looking to see through the fog of war.

chesspupil - thanks for the feedback! We keep working on improving. What device are you playing on? Playing outside?

We do our best to support Android's reference devices and balance the screen display for the average Android screens.
Maybe an sunlight friendly screen protector or increasing the device's brightness with a 3rd party control would help.

Already using max brightness With extra battery drain. could the degree of darkening be controlled in game settings? By moving color palette shading on a sliding scale rather than any adjustment of screen illumination?

chesspupil - we will take a look. Thanks for the feedback. Most likely it is something we can investigate in our next major engine upgrade.

This is the first time I've ever heard this request.
We'll keep watching our feedback channels for ideas for future games and patches.

My 2 cents: I have actually had the same issue, but it was totally dependent upon the external lighting conditions. Basically, if I try to play outside during the day then it is impossible to see anything in the already cleared areas. This is on a 2013 Moto X, but I imagine many devices would have this problem in daylight.

I can't see a thing outside on my HTC m7. Even if the screen is at max brightness. It's to the point where I don't even bother playing HoS or 4X unless I'm inside, which is a shame because I have tons of opportunity (when it's not winter, of course).
The only TB game I can play anywhere is AoP, because it's so bright...

Glad to know its not just me... many games can do this with a pallet slider...

My M7 was completely hopeless in direct sunlight, but the M8 I'm using now performs really well in sunlight, and I have no problem playing our games or others.
