When I'm attacking with LS or Ranged Onslaught horizontally from right to left, I seem to never hit anything below the horizontal axis. This is weird because attacking from/to other directions seems to work perfectly. The propabilities make it very certain that this is not just bad luck though.

Have you see the thread about how those AoE templates select targets? If you haven't, I can try to find it, I think it was by contributor, had all the details.

I know these threads, and I am very aware of which squares the talents should target. Would it help to provide an example?

Examples always help, any details do. I am definitely interested in trying to explain the situation, or clarify the rules.

crimsonking, not everything in template coverage is always hit. Also, there can be an issue of max targets, but I doubt it in your case. Other than that, I've not noticed such a pattern, but it is hard to get mobs line up for testing. They are dying faster than necessary for proper testing.

I think crimsonking didn't believe it was to-hit rolls causing it, but max targets isn't out of the question. Because the equation will fill in the outside of the triangles first, if it was max targets hitting the target directly behind would be the last added to the list. My advantage with testing is that I can place monsters on the map and shoot them, or remove a monster's move points so it stays put for target practice =)

Cory Trese, I'll add that bit to the thread, I didn't know it filled the outside first, and that would definitely make a difference. crimsonking, I've never noticed anything like this, and directional AoE are my bread and butter. Are you on the exact same row as the target enemy? If you are one square below it, the template will adjust so that it follows that one row across, and the other side will become an exact diagonal from the target enemy... Switch that if you're one square above the TE.

I am sorry to confirm that I absolutely never hit any targets south of the caster when casting Lightning Spear or Ranged Onlsaught horizontally from right to left. This is not caused by any max target boundary.
To be precise, in the constellation
ooo1oooo oo23oooo o456oooC oo78oooo ooo9oooo
with C being the caster and 1 to 9 being the possible targetted fields, the fields 7 to 9 seem to never be targetted at all. This does only occur when casting exactly horizontally from right to left and happens even if fields 1 to 5 are empty so that maximum target number is definitely not exceeded. In other constellations LS and RO hit > 90%.

Cory Trese, I see my brainwashing is paying off. Now, if I could just get you to say that in a thread I'm actually participating in...

It was obviously a prophecy. He foresaw you making a correct comment about spear lightening.

Oh, oh, that did get me interested in this thread though. I wasn't reading it carefully enough. I think I have experienced the same thing as crimsonking. There have been times when an AoE attack just won't hit certain targets and it seems to defy the probabilities. I've got a Selen with Pinning Shot and she just experienced this today. Right to left and targets to the south don't get hit. I'm going to go do more testing. ...now to go find some lab ratkins.

I'll do some testing myself, I'll let you know if I'm getting it too...
